Is King an employee or is he consulting for the group?

The local market manager position has been posted, they're in that search now. I would think they would definitely want to look for something new, but we'll see...

I know this is at least the second go around in the Nashville market for Bob & Sheri. What were their ratings on Star 97 a few years ago?

the ratings for bob and sheri were better then. venus doesn't believe in marketing. the old gm and current ops guy went by what their friends and strangers told them in bars. everyone in the building are ready for some big changes. i think their still looking for a new ops manager. the current one doesn't know what he's doing and jk sees right through him. jk is running things until a replacement for the gm is named.

Bob & Sheri never cracked the 25+ Top 10 on the Hot AC or 80's Star (if memory serves me.) The format geared toward women
should have been better. I think women tend to be less patient with long-winded jibber jab then men.

Lulu and Trish are totally opposite of what the attempted Venus' target want to hear. Both are really nice people and I won't
go into their shows good or bad points. I'd be worried if I were a fan. Hopefully we'll get to hear Trish say "hey there" for the
millionth time before something, if anything, happens.

Looking at the numbers, though, the station can be pulled out of the toilet if JK gets a fighter team of professionals
1.) If they could double the numbers they'd be in the game. That shouldn't be hard:
a.) music in the morning - forget a strong expensive local talk..get a good sounding local person.
b.) the mid-day female sounds like she'd be great working in a small market - not here... to giddy and happy go lucky.
c.) Trish and Lulu ---
d.) Can some of the 80's music and go more current A/C (some of the lighter AAA artists like Keane, Snow Patrol) with
a smaller 80's blend.
e.) LIVE LOCAL nites...no canned garbage from Jones or whoever is putting that swill on the air.
f.) I have to question the Venus approach since it alienates 50% of the potential audience.
g.) Mostly --- turn back on the old transmitter since it sounded better than the multi-expensive high-tech system that is spotty
and sounds like it's being pumped out of a sewer.

2.) The Venus advertising budget is mainly billboards, they have the largest number on urban interstates (loops, etc.)
than all other stations combined.

3.) The old gm and current ops guys went by what people told them in bars. Uh --- are those the same people (or bars)
that trade out spots for admission and/or dances??? I just had to throw that out there to keep my rep in-line of loving to
rib them for their "personal marketing."

what other ideas can anyone add --- besides flipping to Sports Talk or Country???

I don't see any of the current format at 102.5 to be salvagable. The signal cannot work as a Nashville station catering to a broad base of adult women because adult women generally will not put up with even occasional static to tune in to a radio station. They'd rather tune to a station that's clear, even if it's a station they like less.

I have to speak to this one. Yes. The Operations Manager position at WBUZ /WVNS is being evaluated. It will be soon eliminated or at the very least, scaled back. New Management is unsure. If you know someone with qualifications that fit the need of a corporate Operations Manger for this fledgling company. Tell them to Contact Bud Walters. Please do not refer any alcoholics, this sad radio group has had enough of those to flush out. One down… One to go.

The Cromwell stations cannot be competitive with the established players in Nashville radio because of the signal problem. Also, they're not willing to spend money to get and keep decent talent. If they stuck to Dickson, Clarksville and Shelbyville, they could be the big fish in those communities. Not gonna happen in Nashville.

Supposedly, King moved his family back to Dayton, Ohio. Most likely, he is in a consulting basis. Let us not forget he was the President of the Southeast Region for Citadel and check out that cluster in Music City.

I've worked with John...given the proper tools he could probably salvage something out of 102.5 ... but ... dealing with Bud and Cromwell will be tough. Plus, he has to find a way to overcome their (deserved) loser image. I wouldn't want to try it.
CHARACTERS MOVING FOR ABSOLUTELY NO REASON

I don't know about that, it's almost a dream job in some ways. Practically anything -- anything -- you'd do, on air or off, would be an improvement. By hiring him, Bud has shown he understands his properties need the help, so I don't think you're going to see the kind of resistance to change that you might normally expect.

Could anyone ask John to at least make sure two songs don't play over each other on Satudays? Gnarles Barkley would
go "Crazy" if he knew he had been Green Dayed. I know that is not really a huge event given the dead air, double commercials
and the best are the "subliminal" commercials playing during the songs. I haven't heard such innovative marketing in my
life. Wow, if you play all your commercials DURING the music, it allows you a smoke break or nap for 18 minutes during the dead
air? That's a perk many in radio would die for. :}
