John King's Days Numbered At CNN?

A source predicts that John King, current host of the 7 PM show on CNN, could follow Larry King out the door, though not at his own volition, due to anemic ratings.

That would shock me if King wasn't retained by the station. I thought he did a good job when he hosted the Sunday morning "State of the Union" program. At least give him the option to have that job back!

I've caught his show a couple times and it seems too slow/laidback for the timeslot it's currently in -- hence the low ratings? At least compared to what's on Fox News and MSNBC. Maybe a shift to mid-afternoons/Sundays? Regardless, King seems like a pretty objective interviewer. If they cancel the show, I hope they don't throw the baby out with the bath water.

My sentiments exactly. If they let someone with a body of work as his go on the weakness of his nightly show, there has to be more to it than that behind the scenes.

Again - if you're going to move him back to Sundays, why not just put him back in front of the "magic wall" on "State of the Union"?

I wouldn't have a problem with him moving back, but I'd like to see his show up against "Huckabee." At least on Sundays anyway.

I'm surprised that CNN is still on the air. That network has the most boring shows, and it's air talent is dismal.

To think of all the people who helped start CNN back in the 1980s that were fired to make way for so-called 'celebrities'; those individuals must be laughing themselves silly knowing how anemic CNN has become.

As for those 'celebrities', well the last one is leaving soon: Larry King. The others who came and left (or will be leaving) include:

Paula Zahn
Connie Chung
Campbell Brown

Personally I am waiting for CNN to pull the plug on AC360. There is another waste of air time for CNN.

Don't be surprised however if CNN pulls Robin Meade off HN and gives her a prime time anchor position on the network. Speaking of Headline News; there is another joke. At night HN turns into the Nancy Grace show along with those yellow journalists reporting on gossip from Hollywood.

I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for that one...

After all, this IS television we're talking about....and regardless of his skills (or lack of) as a journalist....he still has what TV programmers crave...a certain "charisma" or "presence"....and of course, "anchorman good-looks"

Think of how all the ladies in the audience must swoon when they see him doing "on-the-scene" reports from dangerous places while wearing that skin-tight black short-sleeve knit shirt... ;D

This reminds me why I always use first names and last names (surnames) when referring to folks I don't know personally in writing (besides showing respect toward the subjects and helping readers learn the names of the people): the people could share the same last name.

Isn't that how Paula Zahn was hired at CNN in the first place?

And incidentally... what if those rumors of Anderson Cooper taking over the "CBS Evening News" come true?

I always thought Paula Zahn and Bill Hemmer had good chemistry together. Hemmer never clicked with anyone once she left.

Anderson Cooper has never lived up to expectations ratings-wise, I don't know why they keep him around.

<And incidentally... what if those rumors of Anderson Cooper taking over the "CBS Evening News" come true?>

I guess they will change the name to "The CBS Evening News with Anderson Cooper"

The program could be renamed AC-CBS. As for Cooper still being on CNN, isn't his Mother some multi-millionaire? Maybe she's paying for ads on the network; who knows?

I don't think there is only ladies that are swooning over Mr. Cooper...
