John Kruk/ESPN

We've all heard stupid things said during live broadcasts. Surely, many of you can name a few, however, the other night Tampa Bay and New York were on ESPN. The game was played in St. Petersburg (as an aside it is amazing how many so called sports talking heads will refer to the game being played in "Tampa") and there was a thunderstorm. Thunderstorms with lightning are as common here as snow in Alaska. The lightning capital of the world is Tampa Bay area. There was a strike during the game which knocked out power for a few minutes. John Kruk was part of the studio team. Kruk's comment "I wouldn't want to be in that building being struck by lightning". Gee, Mr. Kruk, would you rather be outside? For those who aren't familiar, the Rays stadium is a dome. It is probably hit by lightning countless times. There are lightning rods and other features to keep it safe. Mr. Kruk, would it have been better to be in an open air stadium with lightning bolts flashing?

Is he more afraid of lightning than he was of Randy Johnson, though?
It's probably a tossup.

Good point. Both hurt.

Maybe this is why he works for ESPN instead of The Weather Channel. 8)

Even a moron would know it is safer inside than outside during a lightning storm.

John Kruk should leave the weather in the hands of people who are IN THE PROFESSION of knowing it (Like JIM CANTORE for example)

John was hired for his knowledge of baseball - NOT THE WEATHER

Cheers :D

John Kruk was just filling time on a power outage delay.
I hope tomorrow he looks into that whole architecture/weather/electricity thing, how they are all related so he won't make this mistake again!
But I kind of doubt he will... ;)

I didn't see the quote in question...but are we really sure he wasn't going for a Yogi [Berra]-ism there?
