John Lander The End?

50/50 chance Lander will stay on. PD hates him, He makes way too much money given his bad ratings. Only way he might stay if he takes a hefty paycut.

We believe he won't be around much longer.

Good. Let him go. I've never forgiven him anyway for replacing Joe and Andy. ;D

Not sure what his show is like in Boston but while growing up I always enjoyed his show on Eagle 106 in Philly, and a short time later on Z-100 in New York. Perhaps Elliott Segal kept him a bit more edgy in those days. It's a shame if he gets let go, but maybe he will find his way back to Philly. Ya never know.

Did he cut them? Or was he just hired by a PD to do that? If he was offered a job should he have said no? If he didn't take it, someone else would have. It's not personal......

I was kidding.

Lander replaced Joe and Andy (more specifically, just Joe, as Andy had already left some months earlier) on-air as the morning guy.

;D :-[ :-[

J & A were great. Forgive my ignorance (I left southern NH in 1990), but what happened to them? Am I right that Andy passed away?

If anyone at Mix had half a brain they would attempt to lure away Matty from Kiss. It doesn't matter the cost (and it wouldn't be cheap).

If you can get Matty to mornings at Mix... you can take a HUGE chunk away from Kiss... not only mornings... but all day. There are a zillion women in their 30s and 40s who probably don't care for the music on Kiss... but tolerate it to listen to Matty. And because they grew up listening to it and don't want to admit they've "aged out".

Yes, Andy passed away maybe 5 years ago. At the time, he was co-hosting a talk show on WRKO with Peter Blute (?). Keep in mind..I don't mean to infer that he died while on-air. That was his job at the time of his death. Peter Blute had a nice on-air tribute to him following his death and WRKO had a nice tribute to him on their website.

Joe is retired now after doing several years at stations in Florida and, I believe, Texas. I think it was post-vocal chord surgery problems that did him in, job-wise. I believe he and his wife live in Colorado now and he has a book out as well that deals with radio. In fact, I think it's mentioned somewhere here on R-I in an old post.

Chuck Igo, who is a familiar Boston radio voice and who posts alot on the Northern New England board, may be able to fill you in on the book.

For trivia buffs, Andy was the first guy to host WEEI's morning show when they flipped from all news to all sports. As you might imagine, Andy brought just a tad bit of controversy to WEEI as he wasn't exactly Mr Sainthood. Personally, I loved the show. He lasted maybe a year (??) before they decided to bring in someone else and Andy was relegated to the 5am-6am (or maybe it was 4am to 5am) hour for the remainder of his contract. Rob Buttery was the news guy and Suzanne Lee was the comedy sidekick.

And, also for trivia buffs, the 'someone' who replaced Andy was the team of Tom Doyle and Craig Mustard, if I'm not mistaken.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, please. ;D

I think if Mix were smart they would move Greg Daniels to morning and Lady D to afternoons.

That's a great idea; Lady D is too good a talent to be doing nights.

Hasn't Greg Daniels failed enough times in the morning. Even ZLX was smart enough to pass him up when he auditioned to replace Thai with Steve Sweeney and ZLX will throw anything on the air, it seems.

Andy Moes was long gone when WBMX hired John Lander. Just for the record, Andy was let go when Atlantic Ventures flipped 98.5 WROR to WBMX in 1991. They kept Joe Martelle. Joe was paired with Jody Winchester, former Producer for Loren & Wally in the WVBF days, as Joe & Jody. Joe had health issues and was out a lot, and WBMX had Joe Cortese fill in (so they could still say Joe & Jody?) for an extended period. Lander came in late 1994 or early 1995. Joe subsequently did afternoons for the new 105.7 WROR, then went to KLDE in Houston, then to WEAT in West Palm Beach. As noted above, Joe and his wife Kim moved to Colorado.

I don't recall that at all. ???

As interesting as such a move would be, I highly doubt that would ever happen. Entercom almost always seems to be on the cheap when it comes to hiring talent and retaining it. The only 2 exceptions that I can think of is Howie Carr and Glen Ordway on The Big Show.

Should I even be allowed to post on these boards anymore? LOL!. I goofed! CBS obviously owns Mix and not Entercom. I do not know why I thought it was them, probably because I was still thinking of the old days of American Radio Systems when they were all under one roof instead.

One day Matty will probably get too old for his top-40 demos. He'll probably jump to talk station for big bucks. Maybe take over mornings at 96.9 when I-man's oxygen tank finally gets empty.

As long as he continues to converse well with people who aren't too old for the Top 40 demos, he's fine.
