John Landrum gone from 92.5 WESC

Not really part of the current RIF going on but when scanning the web I noticed that iHeartMedia released "Long John" Landrum from PD and nights at 92.5 WESC back in late February. He had been there over 3 decades. Didn't see any mention of it on here, but he was a legend in his own right in the market.

Not surprising since 92.5 WESC seems to be in a long term decline and is mainly a flanker for WSSL. WSSL is the only station in that cluster iHeart seems to care about these days and even it has been off.

Someone told me I had been mentioned here...so obviously I was curious as to what was said. I really haven't followed media sites since the ol' Mediachatter if you remember that. It kind of got old to me with people hiding behind screen name and slinging mud at their competitors.

It is true that I was let go in early February after 36 years with WESC. Actually, I was an early casualty of the restructuring in the company and was told my position had been eliminated. Another on air PD in Raleigh was let go the same week.....and of course as the list grew over time the trades picked up on it.

As for some slippage in WESC's ratings, it's something I actually predicted. Every format goes through cycles. Ratings for Country stations nationally have been down from previous highs. There are exceptions in certain markets, but generally considered soft. That combined with Pop formats enjoying the benefits of superstars like Adele, Bruno Mars, Taylor Swift, etc....listeners gravitate to stations to find those artists and therefore TSL is down for Country.

I had a great run at WESC enjoying many high points and enduring the low ones. I was always treated well through several different ownerships and got to work with some great people. I am proud of what was accomplished while I was there and look forward to seeing what the next chapter will hold.

It is awesome, John, that you were there for as long as you were - I am almost 50 years old, and I remember you being on the WESC (and 660 in Dixie!) in the early 80s. That's a longtime in broadcast media. I remember the old "We're Family...." jingles that tailed out with the name of the current on-air announcer's air shift.
