John Prince

Mike and I went to see John last night at MD Anderson, and he asked us to post an update here and on Facebook.

For those who aren't aware, he had a stage 3 brain tumor removed recently and is now undergoing radiation treatments at the hospital, as well as occupational therapy and physical therapy so he can regain use of his left arm and leg.

He's making great progress - in my eyes, a huge improvement over what we saw a week ago. Yesterday he was able to walk 25 yards using the parallel bars and he's able to move his wrist again. He's in great spirits (he immediately started giving Mike some well deserved crap when we walked into the room) and he's tentatively scheduled to get out of the hospital on July 31st.

I fully expect to open a magazine ad or see a TV spot for MD Anderson someday and see him drawing a line through a cancer that I couldn't even begin to spell. The guy's stronger than I could ever hope to be.

He appreciates all the well wishes he's received, and all he wants to do is get back on the air... says that's where he feels like he belongs. If you've worked with him, he'd like to hear from you too. Kevin Charles and I have his contact info. If you plan to visit, call first to make sure he's in his room and awake.

FYI - that tentative release date isn't official... it's up to the doctors to make the call. As always, prayers, good karma, well wishes are all appreciated.

my apologies for not posting here earlier. John looked good the other night. The week before, I didnt know what to expect.... Walking into the hospital, the closer you get the more serious reality gets into your mind, and I didnt know if John would even be speaking, etc. You just dont know. And so, as soon as we walked in, he was talking smack to me, and I was damn glad to hear it.

You can tell this has been some scary **** for Prince and his family. Memorial day weekend he just got this horriffic headache, and said arms & legs went numb, and then couldnt move.

If you've worked with him, you know he's still very respectful of his mom, and if you ever meet her, you will see why. She is one awesome lady, and so moved by the support he's been getting.

John wanted to thank all our colleagues for calling and visiting. If you havent had a chance, please give him a shout. PM me, John, or Kevin for info. It not only does so much to lift his spirits, but it really means so much to his family, who has dropped everything to be by his side this entire time. Its a bit tricky getting around MD Anderson, so check on room #, but definitely, if you can, it is much appreciated.

My best wishes and thoughts to John, his family, and his extended radio family.

Its Sunday, August 2nd... I Just had a call from John Prince. He is still in the hospital at MD Anderson. He's been in there since his surgery on July 1. John says he is making good progress with his physical therapy. His left side has been paralyzed since the surgery. He is slowly regaining some movement but has to struggle to make things happen that you and I take for granted every day. Please continue to pray for him and his family. They have dropped everything in their worlds to be with him daily and help him along his path to healing. He says he may be released this coming Friday if things go well this week, but even so, they want to keep working with him on his therapy so he may stay even longer. If you want to stop by and visit with him, I have the information and would be happy to pass it along. Just let me know.

Kevin Charles
