John Pruitt retires from the Nightbeat

Justin is OK (I'd give him an 85) but they should have gone with John Bachman......he rates
about a 98. Will Justin be in the 11PM slot for 30 years? I doubt it. They will be lucky to get
5 at the most.

Pulling the foundation out (John Pruitt leaving) does make for a shakey building and the other
stations in town will make the most of this.

I wonder what Jovita must be thinking. It has to be something along the lines of, "Alright, Miss Monica - let's speed this thing up a bit..." ;D

As for Justin, he has strong reporting chops, which will hopefully serve him well in the long run. I'm still not a fan of his behind the anchor desk. Plus, there's the whole "nepotism" thing. But he is a journalist and not just another pretty face, so that's a plus. I agree with gregg75 - I really like John Bachman and think he would have been a strong choice for the primetime gig. However, I also really think Fred Blankenship is primetime material as well. I wouldn't be surprised to see one (or both) of them eventually jump ship if offered a higher profile somewhere else. They're quite good at what they do.

I doubt this change at Channel 2 will do much to shake up the ratings. Now when Monica decides to downsize her role, that's when we'll likely see the earthquake...

For me this is almost deja vu all over again. Another dominant
ABC affiliate, WFAA Dallas/Ft. Worth, went through this same
thing over a period of years:

1. Sportscaster Verne Lundquist went to ABC, then to CBS, where
he's one of their most visible announcers.

2. Co-anchor Iola Johnson went (I think this is right) into rehab and
began appearing on an occasional basis.

3. Co-anchor Tracy Rowlett moved to CBS o&o KTVT.

4. Weathercaster Troy Dungan retired.

Now at WSB we have:

1. Sportscaster Chuck Dowdle retires.

2. John Pruitt is cutting his workload in preparation for retirement.

3. Monica Pearson says she's going to retire in 2012.

4. That leaves Glenn Burns.

Although WFAA lost what many critics around the country considered
one of the best "front fours" anywhere, the station is still number one,
although perhaps by less margin than in the past. And I think WSB will
continue to be number one, even if the "front four" completely changes
(WSB mystique, you know...).

I'm not familiar with the timeline at WSB, but at WFAA you're talking things that happened 20 to 25 years ago (with the exception of Troy Dungan).

Well, that will occur about year from now...

Not quite true; it's been less than 20 years since Tracy Rowlett went to KTVT.
But the point is that WFAA is still number one. WSB, I predict, will still be number one even if it loses the entire
front four of John, Monica, Glenn, and (as has already happened) Chuck.
