John Records Landecker interview

As I remember it, perhaps in error, when Hy Lit exited Wibbage and the Drake format became that much more the rule of the 99 spot, it was Scott Walker, AKA Nino Fatso Scottso Walker who
took over nights at the Big 99. Maybe Reynolds preceded, he was certainly around then, as was Happy Jack. When the format changed, post Drake, best defined by Ed Richards one morning informing us it was 11 minutes after 6 o'clock, not 6:11 like it used to be, Landecker really blossomed, including finally using his real name, including what is said to truly be his middle name, Records. Part of that time frame, and I believe it was before he started Americana Panorama was his Wednesday Night at the Memories show that it's so sad I don't have the reel to reel tapes I had of those shows.

Like so many that have graced the Philly frequencies, what a talent. Thanks for the post.

Walker/Landecker preceded Reynolds, who came in early in the Buckey regime sometime late in 1969 or early 1970. "Happy Jack" was Jim Quinn, now morning drive at CC's Pittsburgh talker WPGB-FM (and our morning host here at WYSL via syndication.)

As "Scott Walker," Landecker actually trained me (then a 19-year old college kid) for summer relief at WIBG in July - August 1969. Much in the same way Paul Drew simply informed Landecker that his air name would be "Scott Walker," the name summarily bestowed upon me was "Jack Roberts." This was an economical expedient since all WIBG jocks required a Johnny Mann Singers name jingle costing $1000, quite a tab for a four-second acapella sing in '69 (and still so today.) So I inherited half of Quinn's name jingle: I got "Jack" from "Happy Jack" and "Roberts" from Duke Roberts, another recently-departed Big 99 jock.

Voila: I became "Jack Roberts." Or, as many friends in the industry have referred to me familiar with this tale over the years: Jack "Splice" Roberts.
