John Records Landecker @ KTNT

I never truly believed that radio star, John Records Landecker, made a stop-over at Tacoma's KTNT, but someone was using the name there back in the early 70s. If anyone knows the real identity of the DJ that claimed to be John Records Landecker at 1400 KTNT, pass this info along, please.

Ummm who said this Landecker fellow worked at KTNT in the 70's? John Records Landecker

Is it possible somebody just heard this guy out here when he was at WLS in the 70's didn't their signal reach nearly 40 states at certain times?

Not sure if Western Washington was one of those areas. I usually hear CJDC on 890 out of Dawson Creek, BC which comes in pretty strong in Puget Sound some nights (I guess they have a strong southwest night pattern.) I have occasionally heard WLS in Eastern Washington though........

back when scotty was raised up, as a young one, in illinois, early 70's style, he grew up with a radio on 24 hours per day, and top40 WLS, WIND, and super CFL coming out of the speakers, and remembers listening to john records landecker.

when the big move came to the great NW, and being a radio nut at a young age, he AM DX'd at night (still got the hit lists circa 1975-79). the big feather in my cap was the night i finally got WLS clear enough to break through, and hear the call letters, when KIXI 880 AM was off the air one early sun morn for service.

now i occasionally tune into WLS via CC WiFi radio, and it is as clear as a bell. the only thing missing is that great early 70's music.

youze people in this radio saloon are all radio nuts..or like the late great wayne cody used to always say on KIRO sportsline "thats knuts with a K"

CJDC wasn't on 890 at the time though. It was on 1350 through at least 1977.

Landecker does not list KTNT on 440 Satisfaction. He does list WIBG in 1969, and WLS in 1972. Sometimes folks do leave off stations on that site, but I seriously doubt he would go from Philly to KTNT Tacoma, to Chicago. Last I heard John was doing part-time at WLS-FM, a mostly syndicated oldies station. He's also done some fill-in talk for the original AM.

As for DXing WLS, I too once picked it up in the 70's in North Seattle. Lasted less than one minute. However, east of the Rockies, WLS was almost everywhere at night, and throughout much of Eastern and Central Wisconsin, Northern and Central Illinois, Northern Indiana, and Western and Central Michigan during the day. I have some old WLS airchecks recorded in Grand Rapids, Michigan that sound almost like it was a local. Yet, the signal had some problems in some NW Chicago suburbs around 2005-06!

Lots of jocks stole "Boogie Check" so ripping off the name isn't that far fetched. Landecker does talk at a suburban station in NW Indiana and last I knew did "Into the 70s" on the TKO Network

I hear 890 CJDC most nights, with KDXU St. George, Utah fluttering in the background. Sometimes KDXU is on top.

...KING's Andy Barber being one of them!

Could also be like "Alan Smithee" ... where someone just picks a name to go with the gig because they aren't taking it all that seriously (Smithee is director credit that directors use when they hate the quality of the finished product). When I was doubling-up (2 different employers same market) I would use the name of an old high school nemesis on one station because I knew he HATED country music!!

Before they broke up the clears, WLS was a regular catch in Portland, not loud but regular. So was WCBS after KRVN went off the air. I don't know why it wouldn't come in in Seattle when KIXI was still on 910.

In a related area, Kris Erik Stevens once substituted at KISN. Perhaps, it was a similar situation with Landecker at KTNT. I talked to Kris, regarding the matter, about 20 years ago but can't remember what he said.
