John Records Landecker

I just found this recently: John 'Records' Landecker, once the evening jock on Wibbage (1969-72), who left WIBG to do nights at powerhouse WLS in his hometown of Chicago & later was on oldies staions there, is now co-hosting a local 9am-noon talk show on WIMS 1420 AM in Michigan City, Indiana, far around the lake from Chicago. Listening online, topics are local or light entertainment (American Idol, not politics). Sounds like he's having fun in a semi-retired, relaxed position. He's even hosting the local talent show "Hoosier Star" and doing a remote tomorrow from an orchard where strawberry picking season is on! Reminds me a little of Irv Homer wrapping up his career on WBCB, when he used to do the show from the lobby of Goodnoes in Newtown.

Interesting the station website shows they were carring Joey Reynolds overnights; Landecker followed Reynolds for a couple years on WIBG & then replaced him in the 6-10pm slot. Another WIBG jock from the era, Don Wade, is still on WLS doing a conservative talk show mornings with his wife as he's done for many years.

While it's a lttle hard to hear well on the north side of Chicago, I have listened a few times, and I still have a Pavlovian
response, wanting to call in for "Boogie Check."

Who would have thought that JRL would love doing his talk show on the 5,000 watt WIMS? He loves it and it sounds like he is having a great time. In our little community, about 15 miles south of MC, we not only have JRL, but as of this week, we have Larry Lujack on WLOI, 1540-AM in La Porte, IN, doing his afternoon show on Hit Parade Radio!
