John Rhadigan?

That would be a great jump for Rhadigan - but I'm not sure he's the right guy for the job. I'm not sure what his skill set is, but he doesn't have a baseball play-by-play voice. (Then again, I didn't think Eric Nadel did, either, but he's turned into one of the premier radio PBP guys in the nation.)

Let's hope the Rangers are serious about getting someone that can hold an audience's attention, with a solid delivery, good voice, and the intelligence to shut up when a big play happens. And let's also hope the news about them having interest in Manny Ramirez is just a rumor.

Unfortunately, I don't have much confidence in either.

Skill set? One of the worst phrases I've ever heard.

Simply write, "I'm not sure what his skills are, but ...

Manny ... agreed.

The best thing about this move is that I don't have to hear him ruin another show filling in on The Ticket.
I don't like this move at all. The guy has never done play by play. This was a Tom Grieve power play. He's the one that should have been let go. He drags down the telecats.

You sure about that? Rhadigan filled in over the Christmas holiday and may well do so again.

Lewin got on there early on in his tenure and was a dad-joke machine. Norm was tipping his cane to him.

Yeah TFJ maybe right on this. I definitaly can see The Ticket attempting to put Rhadigan and Followill together as a regular fill in show or even trying to make a recurring weekend show when travel permits. Sure they would love to market the fact that Mavs and Rangers TV PBP guys are both Ticket "Day 1"ers.

Rhadigan's staccato delivery is barely tolerable as a pre- and post-game host. He is an immediate channel changer as a radio talker. He will be unlistenable as a TV play-by-player. The guy is straight-up dull.

What was so wrong with Josh. I liked him. ???

Probably the fact he dared to pursue other work, like the Chargers PBP job. I don't begrudge him that at all. I don't know why the Rangers had such a huge problem with it.

John Rhadigan is Out as Play-By-Play Announcer

The Rangers announced that John Rhadigan is no longer the play-by-play voice of the Rangers on television. Dave Barnett will take his place alongside analyst Tom Grieve.

Steve Busby will join Eric Nadel for most of the games on 103.3 FM ESPN and pre- and post-game host Bryan Dolgin will also assist Nadel for some games this season.

Rhadigan will return to Fox Sports Southwest as the lead anchor of FSSW’s Rangers pre and postgame coverage and other programming on the network.

John was not a good fit for the play-by-play. I'm glad to see him gone from that position. Personally, I like John, and wish him the best in his new role.:)

What happened to Bill Jones doing the play by play?

Bill Jones got fired about 10-11 years ago.

Rhadigan was not very good. He didn't sound like he wanted to be there. He also wasn't a very good announcer. Dave Barnett will be very good. He deserves it. He's been an announcer in the Dallas area and ESPN for decades.

My pet peeve about the TV coverage of Rangers games, was this.... When the next Ranger comes up to bat, more often than not, that player's name was not announced until after the pitch. I want each player announced each and every time as they come up to bat, before they take their first pitch.

Lately, the TV announcers have been yip-yapping, and I don't even know who's receiving pitches ! ! ! But I blame JOHN RHADIGAN for that, as he was in charge of what was being said.

The radio does a much better job of announcing hitters as they come to the plate. But..... as we all know.... synching radio to TV is not feasible, due to TV delays for various reasons.... Yes, I'd LOVE to listen on the radio AND watch the game on TV, but that delay difference is an obstacle that I can't watch.

I was listening to Wednesday's game at my dentist's office (please note the day before the switch became official) and I realized that the TV broadcast was more like a game should be announced.

My first thought was that Dave Barnett, when i found out it was him, should be doing the games as it was that obvious the difference between what Rhadigan was on the air and what a long-time pro was.

In all honestly, I would have given John time off in the winter, sequestered him for a few hours each day with tapes and let him learn by going though older games to get a rhythm.

This all reminded me of an old adage I learned whien I did college radio way way back in the day. Baseball is an easy sport to announce but a difficult sport to do well. Dave Barnett does TV well

Regards
Rich
