John Tesh Radio Show Moves to KJUL

According to Street Talk at www.radioandrecords.com, the John Tesh syndicated evening show is being picked up at KJUL, now that KMZQ, its previous home in Las Vegas, has switched to the Jack format.

How will this work? KJUL is a mix of standards and very soft AC. Does Tesh only supply the chatter between songs but the station plays its own format? I don't hear him announce the songs but he does talk over intros, which takes a bit of good board operating if the station is playing its own music during his show.

Or does this signal KJUL will just be soft AC in the evenings during Tesh's show? Is this a sign of things to come, that despite excellent ratings, KJUL management is moving away from Standards? Or do they think that with Tesh's chatter and advice, younger listeners will tune in while the standards keep playing?

Thanks for the news. I believe it's an option for a John Tesh affiliate to program their own music. For example, the John Tesh station in Seattle is Hot AC KPLZ and plays music that is far different than the typical Soft AC Tesh station.

As far as whether this signals KJUL moving to Soft AC? This will be interesting to monitor. Their ratings aren't nearly as excellent as the 12+ would lead you to believe (and even their 12+ isn't as good as it used to be). Almost their entire audience is 55+, they are not a factor whatsoever 25-54.

2005 is shaping up to be an exciting year for format flips in Las Vegas. First there was 100.5, then AM 1280/FM 104.7 (if you want to count 104.7 as a LV station), 99.3, changes rumored for 107.5 on August 1, and now the possibility of 104.3 shifting to AC. Could there even be more flips before the year is over?

If you wish to run a big steaming pile of Tesh, you can do so pretty much whenever you wish..the show can run in any daypart..

I think you also have the option of playing music that suits your formatics..Christian stations make up the bulk of his sydication base, but A-Cs are also accounted for..
 
Actually, the majority of Tesh's affiliates (my guess is 90% of them, and he's got like 160 stations) are AC, NOT Christian. He's got a few Christian ones (in Atlanta, and Indianapolis)... but the bulk of his affils are AC & Hot AC's ....he's on KIOI/San Francisco, & KPLZ/Seattle, both Hot AC, and Seattle had a monster book with him... looks like he's also got a handful of Smooth Jazz & Oldies stations.

Tesh had good ratings in the Spring book released on Friday. He was #2 25-54 for his final Lite 100.5 book.

I wonder if KJUL plans on running him as many hours as Lite did?

Thats interesting. I never knew that Tesh did shows for stations other than AC.

Country KWNR was #1 in every daypart this book.

Tesh beat Delilah by a big margin. This was a change from the Winter 05 book when Delilah beat Tesh.

I wonder how long it will take LV Tesh fans to find him on KJUL? I would guess that few of his listeners ever cume KJUL. Beasley will really have to promote that he's there.
