JOHN TESH TO MORNINGS AT WYXB

Chief, I was referring to Bernie not being in the same class as Burbank from an entertainment standpoint. Really from a ratings standpoint as well.

You are right about the performance of the Radio One properties. Oh BTW...they are doing it with syndicated morning shows on their top two stations. (Tom Joyer and Russ Parr)

We can agree that Randy Michaels was on the money and Feder is an idiot.

I guess not many people here were listening b/c there were 2 people on that morning show. Kelly Vaughn was let go by Emmis in the move. News will now come from Amber Sterns in the WIBC Newsroom. Also, Delilah is no longer on the air. Ann Richards will be doing nights. It appears the Delilah show was not doing well in PPM markets. In the last change, David Woods will handle mid-days.

Okay, I'm sure John Tesh is a swell guy. However, a talking head aimlessly reading show prep is horrible radio. Yes, I know he gets ratings but damn it so much.

Is Eric Garnes out? Or has he been gone for sometime?

Tesh is 5-9; Wood 9-12; Garnes 12-4; Bernie 4-8 & Ann 8-12 is the new lineup

odds are that bernie eagan is not happy to be moving to 4 to 8pm, but is happy to still have a job
Especially in that he does DJ gigs in the evening, but with the ability to VT (which he's quite adept at), that need not be much of an issue.

I've heard Tesh's show implemented well and I've heard it sound like a total disaster. The first couple of shows on B sound like an excellent localized version of the show to me. Indy goes PPM in Sept-Octoberish, how important is AM Drive on soft ACs in a PPM world? Don't know, just asking.

I guess I am opinionated on the Bernie subject and not objective. This is lent and I should be less combative.

I ran into Bernie's (Martin L) uncle after Mass last week and talked for awhile. His impression of Bernie like mine is how can he do what he does without sight. Since I am loosing my vision I know this is difficult.

I also can't stand Tesh. His singing career and dumping ET or them him was my first impression. And btw HE CANT SING. We ran a Christmas program that featured him and when he started to sing I had to cringe, then decide never to air his music again. He can play the piano.

And...Feder is still an idiot. Michaels always took time even with air talent like me on WLW to help me improve. One of those points in your life you make decisions. After WLW I went into engineering and management because no other station could live up to WLW and I diodn't have Randy as a day to day inspiration. The man is a genius.

BTW....Feder is an idiot.

I think Bernie sounds really good in afternoons. I always thought his Saturday night show was the best thing he did. I'd say Tesh has met my expectations. They are producing it well. I've heard some local stuff (Final Four, etc) so they did some planning. The content is targeted on females. They're still getting 8-9 songs an hour. Now I guess the ratings will tell over time. Thoughts?

Bernie is in the same class as the old WTPI jocks (Cooper, Curtis, etc). They were great 20 years ago, but their style doesn't/didn't fit the new AC sound.

I really thought Fritz was doing a great job filling in in the afternoons. He brought some more youthful energy to the station and the newer updated format.

Bernie was a part of the station that redefined the new AC sound, WENS. And it was almost 30 years ago. Kelly Vaughn was great at WTPI but TPI never had the big numbers everyone expected they should have with a 50 kw power bill, best equipment, etc.

Cooper was relatable which si what the AC delivery and sound are about. I still liked Super Cooper better though.

I am unclear. On style. Are you referring to the top 40 delivery of Super Cooper or the AC delivery of Steve Cooper? Same with Bernie. Top 40 delivery of WERK or AC delivery at B?

Old guys doing an upbeat AC format. They were fine for the Bread, Firefall and crappy seventies song intros, but talking up Katy Perry is something different.

Cooper was not relateable to the younger (35yo) female audience. He was giving away tickets to a Nick Jr. type show and didn't even know how to pronounce the name of the show correctly. He was a good jock, but he was not in his element when WTPI was trying to be more of an upbeat AC.

What about Shirk and CHR?

He had higher ratings than any jock at WHHH looking at the hour by hour. Still doing shifts on WIRE. he isn't young.

if you are playing bread and slow james taylor songs you match your delivery with the format no matter what your age ´old guys´ like bernie eagan can do uptempo radio if that is the format btw john tesh is very close to 60

Everyone can match tempo. If your a pro, you know how to do that. I'm talking about the "sound" and "attitude" that these guys bring to the air.

"Let's see if Charlie, David, Rick and Jeff are making the right move. It is fortunate that no one is joining the ranks of the unemployed in this move which speaks well for Emmis."

P-L-E-A-S-E. "...speaks well for Emmis?" this only SERVES Emmis - they don't have to hire a PM talent when they have one in house, can save a salary in the morning, and they continue to enjoy EEO benefit from Egan's employment. My comments aren't meant to be negative, nor mean-spirited, but please, leave the rose-colored glasses at the door.
