John Watson's show missing from WILM

I was scanning the dial tonight after 9pm and WILM was on the bird with some syndicated talker, Andy Dean. John Watson's show was not on. I looked and John's name wasn't listed, but on the program guide, his show is still listed. So is Watson on vacation and the powers to be just threw WILM on the bird as vac relief rather than pay a guest host, or is Watson the last of the 12th and French Sts crew from the old WILM to finally bite the dust.

So that leaves Bruce Elliot at WILM; Phil Feliciangeli at WDOV (he does news for the other CC Delaware stations); Christa Cooper is a DJ on WDSD and does traffic for all the CC Delaware stations. Not sure where Anthony Decastro is located, could be out of state. Anyhow, other than Elliot in the Morning, WILM is on the bird the rest of the day and night weekdays. They do a couple hours of local programming on Saturday and Sunday. I wonder if Bruce Elliot comes in on the weekend and produces those shows.

What a waste of a great studio facility. WILM, WWTX, and WRDX are located in that state of the art building near New Castle. I guess there might be 3 or 4 DJ's for WRDX (Tom-FM). No one live and local for WWTX (even though there is a studio there just for WWTX). Now only Bruce Elliot is there at WILM. So most of the time there's only one studio being used, WRDX, the other two studio's sit empty, plus all those work stations for news reporters are all empty. I guess Bruce get's his choice of many offices as they're all empty. He's the PD of an empty building. What a waste of a great facility. The odd part is CC probably gets some sort of tax break for building that building and the cost, etc.

How irony, when WILM had a huge staff, the largest of any radio station between Philly and Washington, they were housed in an old run down row house on French St that had 35+ year old equipment. Now they've got the best building, state of the art equipment and no one there to use it.

It a shame to see what Clear Channel continues to do to stations across the country. Remember how they almost killed off WDSD by moving it to 92.9? WILM had a great reputation at one time, now look or listen to it. Think of all the money they wasted by building all these studios, when the just need a server closet. The decline continues. At least Wilmington has one good radio company, Delmarva Broadcasting. The market deserves better.

If you read the other boards on Radio-Info, you'll notice CC is reducing staff in most markets. They killed John Watson's show by moving it to night. So they may as well just throw on another syndicated talker.

Once again, the live and local talent with the experience gets the shaft. Well, John's a good man who can hold his head high for his years in the biz. I can't say the same for the suits who let him go.

Saw a post on the Facebook Wilmington Radio Alumni page saying that John is gone from WILM. Well, congrats CC. You have now completely gutted what was once a great radio station.
