John Williams Leaving WGN

Station management must have liked his show so much since he was kept, even after all the program changes that WGN went through. Personally, I never listed to his show that much.

I guess that if he was at WCCO 830 before he came to WGN in 1997, I guess he can concentrate more on one show than having two to host right now.

The situation at WCCO is much more stable than WGN. WCCO is a CBS-owned station, and they need all the well-known local talent they can get (they're local all day). He could have a job there for a long, long time and be paid very well. WGN, on the other hand, is owned by a company that has been in and out of bankruptcy and has been shaking up the airstaff quite a bit. And if WGN was sold to another company, such as Clear Channel, then all bets are off. Smart move.
