John Ziegler on tonight's Radio Racket

I know it's last minute, but John will be on our show tonight to talk about his departure from KFI and "the real KFI" website.

Our weekly show about broadcasting (and other things) is based out of Philadelphia and can be heard every Friday night on our website at www.radioracket.com. The show airs live from 10p-2a Eastern and replays on a continuous loop all weekend long.

John is slated to join us at 10:30pm tonight, so I hope you check it out.

Change in plans...

John will now join us in the Midnight hour (Eastern).
He's waiting till after bedtime for CC lawyers.

It's obvious JZ was under the ridiculous impression that talk radio is a movement driven by a political and/or ideological agenda.

He is only partially correct:

The ONLY real agenda talkradio is dedicated to, is entertaining people, getting ratings and making money.

That's all.

JZ must've had some fantastic delusion of how everyone in talkradio is to be reshaping the world!

Give me a break.

People listen to talkradio to either hear their opinions echoed, or to get that adrenaline rush when they hear some jerk espouse the wrong opinion.

It is NOT going to change the world. Not ever. The credibility of the hosts, as evidenced by Limbaugh's continued success, is for the most part irrelevant.

Let JZ call ALL hosts frauds. In his rose-colored world, they are, and shame on them. To the people who have to pay the bills at the station, they are a commodity to be stroked and paid for their efforts.

Maybe JZ should become a missionary.

I'm so tired of talkradio people who are hellbent on some mission other than making their show interesting for the 35 minutes I'm in the car.

I don't want a crusader, I want an entertainer.

I would prefer that the delusion were true, especially now that we are in the presidential election fury, but unfortunately that is not true and you have pretty much summed up what the reality is.

The sad thing here is that John Ziegler at his best was both entertaining and informative. When he was at his worst he was a Rush wannabe trying to justify the administration's mistakes in Iraq. However John and Ken can be all of the things you would want (
The ONLY real agenda talkradio is dedicated to, is entertaining people, getting ratings and making money
) in a talk show and they do often give me that adrenaline rush when I get infuriated at some inane statement they have made. And obviously their rating prove that they are making the money they need to keep the position they occupy.

Some people can (Michael Jackson for instance) can be informative and do thought provoking interviews but because he doesn't have the shock jock persona and has a liberal bent it keeps him from being a major force in talk radio. There will probably be no more Phil Donahues either on radio or TV. People in their cars, where most listen, want outrageous and fast paced, loud and stupid. The danger is that the voices they hear will form their opinions at the polls and that is the tragedy. I may be a pessimist and I hope I am wrong but I see a world of "Ditto Heads" making judgments on 20 second sound bites.

Re: John Ziegler: cry baby

I thought radio was killing poor JZ, he seems to be doing a lot of it of late. The poor guy. Wasn't he crying on the witness stand when he was testifying in the legal matter he was involved in in Kentucky? This guy is a professional victim of the first order. I thought conservatives and libertarians believed in "personal responsibility" and "tough individualism"? A dittoheadcase?
