Johnboy Crenshaw Exits WESC

Crenshaw was indeed let go but "Long John" Landrum is the PD and still kickin'.

And, to the folks that suffer through being eliminated through no fault of your own, there is life after CC. You may have to reinvent yourself but you'll be better off for it.

Will be interesting to see if Clear Channel brings out-of-market voicetracking to 92.5. It always seemed like they were a little more hesitant to VT on that station.

It's true. I feel for people that feel they have to go in search of the next gig that is just like the one they were let go from. I'd think about that one long and hard. Look around. The world has changed.

Crenshaw has my highest level of respect, both Personally, and Professionally. His exit from that Hellhole had nothing to do with his performance. He is Red Dot Top Shelf Air Talent. I wish the best for him, and his twin sons. Lean on your faith...
Scooter Lesley.

Not the first time Crenshaw has been out of a country station owned now by CC. Anyone remember his WSSL days and I believe was on the air at WCOS. Such a shame such great air talent has been bounced around and hope he finds something better soon.

he would be excellent as a talk show host on word
True. I'm not much for news/talk, but WORD's local talent is unlistenable.

Does WSSL have anybody on afternoons? I don't see anything on the website, just mornings, mid-days, and nights that are tracked from St. Louis.

CC Cuts

WSSL dumped Ric Larson from afternoons as part of this week's cuts. You can be sure it'll be an out of market tracker as his replacement.

Love CC's press release that stations will be "more local" as a result of their changes. They treat listeners like they're stupid.

wssl afternoon show has been voice tracked from baltimore for some time. i think rick larson only worked on the weekends and fill in

I don't think Ric Larson has done afternoons at WSSL for quite a while. A couple of years ago they started voicetracking afternoons from St. Louis, but that person has been gone from the website for a long time.

Many years ago - when country was more country - I used to listen to "Cryin', Lovin', Laughin' or Leavin'" on WSSL that was hosted by Johnboy Crenshaw.

Yeah - and after him, Liz Ryals (now of My 102.5) took over. Seems like she used a different last name.

There it is, in a nutshell!

Old jocks used to talk about having been "vaccinated with a phonograph needle," a (now obviously dated) reference to being spoiled for any other kind of career by their work in radio. I once moved around the country quite a bit to take that next challenge (see signature line). But today, how do you even sign a six-month lease on an apartment? Every job at CC and the other bigs has to be viewed as a temp job.

I reinvented myself after radio, but I can't kid myself. If a decent job with a stable, debt-free radio company opened up here in Salt Lake City tomorrow, I'd be excited.

But move? Coming up from Atlanta to be part of the launch of MY 102.5 in '87 was a fantastic experience, and my four years there were very worthwhile. Today? I'd have to wish them luck and decline.

Did 92.5 have anyone on in afternoons yesterday? I'd assume they'll find an outside voicetracker which will be a first for that station. Will try to listen today.

92.5 has used a lot of outside voicetrackers deena blake, dallas reece from greensboro, rick rush from charleston. yesterday i heard angie ward on 92.5 from greensboro. not a first but a recent change in cc due to the layoffs

Sorry, my bad - I've never really listened to them regularly, but they did have the three local fellows running things for quite some time.

Rick Rush from Charleston is one of the best voicetrackers I've heard. He does weekend work on WMYI.
