Johnny CARRmen vs John DePetro

Well, interesting today that former WRKO host Johnny Angel (nee John Carmen) in his new guise as Johnny Wendell on the Stephanie Miller show (subbing) is opposite John DePetro today.

Depetro held my attention for all of 20 seconds, which is to say he didn't.

Wendell/Angel/Carmen was much better than his previous stint subbing for
Stephanie - in fact - his commentary on the OSCARS turned out to be a lot more
fun than Stephanies gags and goofs which reached new lows yesterday (3/2/06).

I generally like Stephanie, but the stupidity level reached new lows yesterday
and got me tuning in to Oldies 103 again (and dare I say it 106 and 105.7).

Good job today, Johnny "Wendell"

Post Script: I think he is interviewed on VH-1 - perhaps a Courtney Love special, not the same show that has interviewed me on that channel.

Post Post Script Script: Sam Seder is doing a MUCH better job than
Al Franken. Maybe it is time to give The Majority Report the noon to 3 PM
shift and put it on a formidable signal - say, WCRB ???

Heard him too and wonder why he knew so much about this area. He even pronounced Quincy correctly - not Quint-c as non-natives do.
Hope is gets his own program. De Putrid has to go.

yeah, he did well. I listened about an hour... when he filled in on WRKO he was met with quite a hostile response as you'd expect. I remember a caller calling him "Johnny Ding-Dong." Johnny took the name Wendel because the media conglomerate thougth Angel wasn't a good name for a talk host.

Congrats to him

Sometimes I listen to Ind. Man but not lately. I disagree with him
on several issues. I sleep late due to my work hours; if I were
up I'd probably listen to Laura Ingraham on WNSH but i can hear
it later on WTKK anyway.

Re: Oldies 103--sometimes it seems like they have a very limited playlist,
but there are segments like Thu Night Countdown, Beatles at 10, and Lost
45s where you hear rare stuff. Even on the Fri night request party.

Johnny is originally from the North Shore, IIRC. In the late 70's he led the Boston punk rock band Thrills (later changed to City Thrills due to some legal issue). At the time you could've seen them playing at The Rat and Cantones alongside bands like DMZ, The Nervous Eaters, The Real Kids, and The Atlantics. In the 80s his band the Blackjacks recorded several albums for Homestead Records. He also fronted a parody band at the same time called The Swinging Erudites. He's a really great guy.
