Johnny Donovan retiring from WABC

Johnny Donovan is retiring from WABC after 43 years!

As "the voice of WABC" I believe he contributed as much to the station's overall sound as the jingles and other production elements. Yet somehow he didn't use his great voice and flawless delivery to call attention to himself -- only to enhance the copy. WABC will sound very different from now on.

JD sounds much too young to retire and hopefully will continue to do voice-overs on his own schedule.

When is Imus retiring? As far as Johnny being too young, it's better to retire when you're still going strong than being too old.

He can work for Rush Limbaugh full-time, and probably get paid by him better than Cumulus would have!

I just know or him as a voiceover guy and have no idea who he is as a broadcaster as I don't think I've ever heard of him in any other capacity. To me he's like the guy that does the WFAN promos and I have no idea who that is.
