Johnny Grant, "Hollywood Mayor" Dead at 84

Johnny Grant, honorary mayor of Hollywood has died. He was 84. Grant was perhaps best known as host alongside over 500 celebrities he inducted into the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Among other things, he produced Hollywood's annual Christmas Parade. The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce named Grant as honorary mayor for life in 1980.

Born in Goldsboro, Grant began his career as a reporter for WGBR. He went to Hollywood after he was discharged from the Army. He appeared in several films over 4 decades, and continued to work in radio doing commercials and live announcer work. He briefly hosted a TV game show.
