Johnny Hayes KRLA Big 11 Countdown

Maybe. I loved listening to the countdown on K-R-L-AAAAAA. Johnny did a great job. I listened from the San Diego area and so it was filled with alot of background static at times from XERB/XPRS am 1090 and KSDO am 1130. I think somewhere, I may have of all things a VHS tape recording of KRLA. I think he was doing a special countdown and I wanted to capture all of it. So, I hooked up my VCR which had a special input for audio and left it run. Now, where that tape might be is a good question. It could be with all my old top 40 surveys or mixed in with the home video stuff I saved. I like Johnny on KRLA, too bad he went to KRTH and we lost his countdown show on AM radio. Mr. Rock N' Roll, Brian Bierne was enjoyable too and I think at the time, it was a move on KRTHs part to get rid of the competition. And then Johnny Hayes was gone. I have some old KYA 1260 surveys with Johnny's picture on it. Didn't he have the all night House Party in 1960 or am I thinking of Johnny Holliday?

Hey, Mike! I enjoy your posts. Early in 1983 I lived in Anaheim and airchecked a lot of stations before I moved back to Ohio. I'm sure I have at least one C-90 of Johnny Hayes, and since his countdown was done daily (per your post), I would bet my tape is a countdown show. KRLA was good, but I only wished they ran some better
jingles. This would have been made with my McKay-Dymek AM tuner with 9 khz bandwidth, so the quality should be good. If you have any questions, e-mail me at [email protected].

A friend of mine anso sent along some of the Aprils Fool re-creations done on KRLA... Casey Kasem, Charlie O'Donnell, Ted Qiullen, etc. Quality is fair at best, but they're still neat to listen to.

No...it was Johnny Hayes, though 1960 might have been a little early....he was at WAKE, Atlanta until 1961.
