JOHNNY MAESTRO, 1939-2010

Sad to hear of the passing of Johhny Maestro on Wednesday night of cancer at his home in Cape Coral, Florida. Truly one of the greatest and recognizable voices in music, and from what I hear, one of the nicest human beings offstage. He leaves behind a treasure trove of classic performances from his days with The Crests and The Brooklyn Bridge. I saw the Bridge last year in a small venue here in New Jersey and the voice was as crystal clear and powerful as it sounds on record. It would be a fitting tribute to have him and the band elected to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame next year. Condolences to his family, the band and all who enjoyed his body of work all these years.
R.I.P. Johnny

Oh man, "The Wosrt That Could Happen".............. It's up to great stations like yours to keep his music alive.
and all the great stuff from the Crests.

Johnny Maestro, the pure-toned tenor lead singer for the Crests fronted hits like “Sixteen Candles,” “Trouble in Paradise,” “The Angels Listened In” and “Step by Step” in the 50s.

The Del-Satins group went through a rocky career backing Dion on a number of his early hits but left after receiving no credits. After splintering as a group, they were finally joined by Maestro and a few others in the 60s, changed the group name to Brooklyn Bridge, and Johnny’s voice lead to group to their smash hit, “Worst That Could Happen.”

Rest in peace Johnny.

And so we hope to be able to number our days, that we have a word of love and kindness on our tongues at any given moment in time.
