Johnson's bad, Mustard might be worse

I was in a position on Saturday where I was stuck listening to Mustard and Johnson. In my humble opinion this is the worst show in the history of radio. I stopped listening to this show a couple years back mainly because I couldn't stand Larry Johnson's pathetic attempts at humor along with his lack of sports knowledge and secondly, the menagerie of callers they attract. I always considered Mustard a smarmy twerp, but at least he was a professional broadcaster.

In the one hour that I listened, Mustard stated the following:
1. Tom Brady shouldn't be the Pats' MVP.
2. Roger Clemens is innocent of steroid use.
3. Al Sharpton is an American hero.
4. Only white people can be racists.
5. He would vote for Hitler if he had a "D" next to his name.

This guy is either starved for attention or he really believes this garbage. If he really believes it, can you imagine what he tells his high school students in the privacy of the classroom.

i rarely get riled up over things heard on the radio, but i did when i heard him saying only white folks can be racist. hopefully he doesnt really believe that.

now im going to play devil's advocate...

one good thing mustard and johnson bring to 'eei is that they challenge people'e opinions. all week you can listen to 'eei and listen to how the patrtiots and the red sox are the greatest teams ever assembled and deval patrick is a big failure and teddy jkennedy is a fat drunk liberal.

it is refreshing to have at least one show per week that offers other opinions.

I can't imagine that he'd say 4 and 5. I'd like to hear audio proof of that. I'm also a bit dubious on 3. 1 + 2 I definitely believe. He may also be playing a role as the host you love to hate. Good cop/bad cop. Typical WEEI.

Oh, those aren't "opinions".

Exactly!
Before Felger there was Mustard.

and Felgy likes to play the contrarian role--like saying the Chargers may have a chance against the Pats. That was the gist during the few minutes I had his show on today (while waiting for WEEI to finally get back from break at 17 after)

I don't dislike either, but they seem determined to attract the worst callers they can to the station. These people show up like addicts to a methodone clinic and are treated like celebs.

Mustard might be a professional broadcaster, but M&J are AWFUL "good guy/bad guy" hosts. Mustard has to go that absurdly to the opposite side of the majority to garner callers and "controversy" because he isn't good enough to do it naturally.

I'm not saying that anything he said above is sacreligious (or wrong) because it goes against the majority, but he is like that all the time. He has to speak loudly and over everyone because he just isn't that good. Weekender and fill-in is jsut fine for him.

They are absolutely awful, but on Saturday morning I might listen anyway depending on what was happening in the sports world. It was the callers that finally drove me away. The same callers every week saying the same thing every week They actaully seem to call in the same order. My theory is that they are afraid to call other shows (with the exception of the ubiquitous Frank from Gloucester) because they are ridiculed by the other shows or just not let on. M&J treat these losers like superstars. They actually seem to be afraid of Joey the fake mafioso. All wise guys call talk shows on Saturday morning with rehearsed speeches, don't they? I've heard that he actually works at a grocery store in Saugus. M&J act like he's Al Capone.

okay fellows. which show is worse...m&j or the new sports huddle?

ill go with the huddle, which is little more than a commercial for kowloons

I haven't listened to the new sports huddle. I've heard a couple of commercials where he accuses the Red Sox and Patriots of being greedy crooks. Sounds like not much has changed since Eddie from Lynnfield left "EEI.

I believe Eddie is the one who brought Larry Johnson into radio. I think he had him on as a representative of Black sports fans. There's a lot of similarities between the two. Both have horrible voices, bad accents, and bad grammar. I'm sure that the administation at Northeastern must cringe every time he says "So didn't I go to Naawwtheastin".

Greedy crooks? Isn't this the same guy that left EEI over money?

I listened to The Huddle once, on accident, and not surprisingly it stunk more than a 3 am informercial. He's reduced to, basically, a weekend filler...and a bad one at that! There is a reason why: HE STINKS!!!!!

Yes, Eddie left over money, they offered him less than they were paying him. That makes HIM greedy?

and Fuddruckahs... and Sid Di-ah-mund's betting parlor... I see some things haven't changed. How much of a piece of the Kowloon or Fuddrucker's do you think Eddie owns?

It's harmless enough, but for a number of reasons "TNSH" might be the worst show I've ever heard.
I check in on both, and check out in usually 10 min's or less.

Ok, where and when can we listen to your awesome show? Why don't you wannabees stop trashing people who have made it in this town! It didn't work out for you. Sorry.

i really enjoy lenny (im not even going to attempt to spell his last name). he was on from 2-6 saturday. he is also often on the planet mikey show.

he doesnt have the best voice, but he does seem to have a personality and he certainly knows his stuff.

Re: TNSH . . . Maybe someone has explained this somewhere?

Whatever happened to Jimmy McCarthy and Mark Witkin, the other 2/3 of the original Sports Huddle?

What worked on that show was the goofiness of the humor and the interplay among the three of them.

And of course, it started in an era where there was very little sports-talk available.

Anyway, just curious about what happened to those guys.
