Johnstown Numbers

I'm looking at the Johnstown numbers... WFGI has dropped from the high numbers it got as the Mountain. The last country concert I was at in Johnstown had many people upset over the invasion of Frogs. Mr. Froggy was actually booed when he went up on stage...so I can't say that I'm shocked by the outcome of this book.

WFGY still shows up well in the J-town book. Perhaps those in the J-town area who are fans of Froggy still prefer the original Froggy along with the personalities they are familiar with....even if it does play more spots.

Key seems to have survived the changes...I don't think anyone ever doubted that....However, I can't figure out what is up with most of the AMs in Johnstown.

No surprise with the Frog dropping in J-town. The Mountain was a strong
brand there and alot of people took the change personally. I see that
WYOT (Forever's "Hot" ex-WGLU) fell for the what I think is the 5th straight
book to a 7.5 12+. Is Mitch Edwards still programming there? If so, why?
Overall, it looks like listening in that market is way down.

For the 2 books I was at Power...the ratings went up each time.I would like to think that Power/Hot's ratings have gone down each book b/c I was no longer there, however the answer to that question is probably answered by the question above. WHY is he still there...probably b/c he has not gone anywhere in 20 years. I sound bitter and I am...when you don't leave in your own terms and when there are people who do things that deserve to be fired...bitterness happens.

CHEERS!

Mitch is still there, he changed from Power to Hot, did a 70% change in music titles, took the station from a KEY wannabe to a good sounding CHR and if you look at the 18-34's - was #1 in persons, which Power hadn't done and he continues to work with and guide Amy and John in the Morning, who has the best morning show in all of Altoona, Johnstown and State College. And congratulations to GTO and Brandon at COOL for one of their best books since the debut of the station.

Dude you sounded bitter when you were there on the air. If the schtick was to be rude to the callers, you had it down.

I think because it my was my first FT gig and I was very green, and for some reason it worked. and I wasnt rude to ALL the callers. I am not sure if you work in radio or not...but some people are morons when they call, sometimes I called them on it and they did not like it.

and if you knew what happened the week before I was let go and you were in my shoes...you would be bitter too.
Edited by fmrgrz on 07/27/05 04:29 PM.

GROWING UP and understanding

Hang on here!

First off the bashing of Mitch is ridiculous. He gave you a chance, Pittsburgh didn't want to give you the time of day.

And a correction on the 2 books you were there, the first one you got flushed down the John by The "Former" Mountain 96.5 who was #1 at night, yes the second you recovered.

The other topic you will NOT give up on, is when you were let go. (I completly understand where you are coming from when you talk about what happened the week before.) But the night position was cut because of a financial decision. I know for a fact that Dame was hurting and knew they needed to turn it around before they sold. So that's when they decided to start cutting jobs. Brad and Jessica from Cool happened to be the first two people to feel the effects of the company salary cutting machine. You happened to be in the path too, you were not let go because of anything you did on the air. From that day on there was NEVER a full time jock on 6 to midnight on Power, proving that there was no plan to hire anyone full time ever. I did it for almost a year part time 3 hours a night and was probably making 1/8 of what you were, man did that company use some of us part timers to the fullest, but I'm doing it cause I want to and love it. Dame needed to get out of the red before they sold to 2510, and I heard these rumors for years before it actually happened.

Can we please grow up!

I know Mitch is your idol. But I was not the one bashing...I just answered what was in an earlier post. And what was good about Mitch was that he "allowed" me to do PT at RRK.

I never claimed to be number 1... the station numbers went up both books is what I stated.

getting out of there was the best thing for me. It sucks not getting to leave on your own terms that is all. Curious to hear your story.

It wasn't Power 92 or 99 or whatever, but I got fired once. Was the PD at WPRR once upon a time. Came in on a monday morning and got fired. To be honest I felt relief as soon as I left the building, but I realized a few years later that getting fired was a really good thing disguised as a bag of crap. Once the management changed I went back and did part time there for fun. It was nice to do it but not have to do it for a living. I don't mean that as a knock on anybody who does it for a living; I just didn't want to be in that position anymore.

You must work there. Kiss kiss. You can do your Arbitron song & dance all
you want but 7.5 12+ for a pop station in market 188 is not good. WYOT is
barely 2 points ahead of WQZS in Meyersdale which has no real format or direction. Its run by some guy & his wife who won the lottery years ago.
And he was beaten by WCCL which doesn't have a PD. To be fair, the WYOT PD
Mitch more than likely had no say in the music changes if I know Forever. And
the Hots in SC & Altoona had similar numbers. Who is Brandon at WCCL?

Mitch hated rap music when i worked there...any time i suggested a song to be played he made a stupid look on his face and said no...3 songs that come to mind are Magic Stick, Ignition, and Get Busy...we were SOO late on those that he had no choice to add them. So I agree...he probably had no say in the music and the Hot 100/103/99 clones are prgrammed elsewhere.

Brandon is Zak. He was VTing nites at 92.1 before they moved him to 10p-2a and then tried him at Power. he is an amazing rock jock..have not had a chance to hear him on Cool though. great guy and should be working in a rock format somwhere else.
