Best damn polka jock on the dial, Clarke! Nice fella, too. I met the guy in the last couple years of WIYQ. Solid fellow indeed. His show was sold out for every one of the 20 years it was on the air. He was supposed to do a Southern Gospel show called "Sentimental Journey" towards the end, but the station ended up getting sold before that materialized.

Although our usernames are similar looking in spelling.
Anyhow, I had the opportunity to work with JoJo at IYQ and Koza on the hill at VAM. Both were great in their own ways as each had their own style of delivery. Both loved the music and could tell you anything you wanted to know about it.

I'm in need of some help and guidnace in regards to a popular Johnstown area Car Show/Cruise-in that I have been very graciously asked to take over the marketing and promotion of for 2010. Having been in my early teens during the 70's....and someone who literally carried around with (me) everywhere, a radio tuned to nothing other than 1230 WCRO, my mind tells me me this would be a terrific time for a WCRO reuinion of some sort. Done In conjunction with this particialur Car Show/Cruise-in event.
I would love to give the former bossjocks the opportunity to DeeJay and intoduce music just as they did back in the day on 'CRO....via the dj service we hire to provide entertainment for during the show. Jack Michaels is at 96 key, (Father) Chuck Bridges is at St. John Gualbert, Marty (JJ Jefferson) Radovanic is at WJAC-TV....and that is all I know?....other than Sandy Dee Neri in town two years ago for the Grass Roots concert. I wonder if this would work out and be successful if done in conjunction with this event. If anyone can offer advice and/or help in contacting former bossjocks and with 'CRO stuff like old "Super 30 Surveys," I can't tell you how vey much it wuold be appreciated.

Thanks oldiesed! The annual event I have been so kindly asked to take over the reigns of, is Windber's annual Fathers Day Car Show which is part of the town's Coal heritage weekend. The event has become very popular among car buffs and the added attraction of introducing 'CRO Boss-Jocks and allowing them to actually "DeeJay" for maybe a half hour a time I think would be really cool. Plus I had planned to have copies made and availaible to attendees of Super 30 surveys, two of which I have located...dated 1/7/72 and 8/6/72. I hope you kind of get the idea of what I have in mind and some of the things I may be able to run with once details are finalized. If I can finalize things here in the coming weeks, I hope to have an official Pres Release as well as offical flyers available to release to the general public as well as to the local media. However of course, this is all still very preliminary and a lot of work and planning still needs to be done if this can be puuled off. The advertising and Marketing of an event such as this is obviously going to be very important. Again, I thank you oldiesed for your interest. I can't help but wonder though who this may be??.....assuming that your are a former "BossJock!!"

George Shiranko, aka Johnny Rabbit in Bedford area. Chuck Bender, Johnstown. Mike Bucki, aka Charlie Tuna in Atlanta now. Jerry Ciekanski, aka Jerry Allen in the Cleveland area. Herb Ruth, Johnstown but possibly RIP. Tom Daren, known more for his time at WJAC but was a WCRO PD in the early 60's. He hangs out on this board a little. TD was the BEST PD Johnstown ever has seen. Sanford Neri, aka Sandy Dee lives in Florida. Tom Aroney...whereabouts unknown. Any of these guys could know any others!

Maybe you could include some type of memorial mention of the RIP guys? Scott McCloud is a recent RIP. The great Dave Marsh...died in a car wreck. Big John Kersheski, Chief Engineer. Other names, dont know if they are still alive....Jack Riley in Roaring Springs. Gary Hagerich in Greensburg. Good luck!
to Mikes65gal; you might want to check in with John George of Georges' Song Shop, a record store that has been town forever. John is very knowlegable about the listening habits of the locals and knows quite a bit about old Johnstown radio and its employees. In fact he has for sale some of the deceased Mr. Ruths' private record collection. Hope this helps!
Jack Riley (WKMC-Roaring Spring) has passed as well as John Smith (John Harrison in Altoona). I'm not sure what name John used at WCRO. Does anyone know whatever happened to Jim Daley/WJAC in the late 60's. How about Dave Smith/WJNL...is he still around. He made a cameo appearance in "Slapshot".
Thanks DX and oldiesed. John George would be a terrific resource. When and if this all comes together, I be sure to post flyers and media releases here. What I have envisioned in my mind I think would be truly "cool" and a great trip down memory and Johnstown nostalgia lane.
