JoJo Kincaid out at The Wolf. Anyone got the scoop?

I can't find anything anywhere about where JoJo went. He's an old friend, so I'm hoping someone can pick up the story for me.

His whereabouts have not been updated at the 440:Satisfaction website,
as of today 10/29/2008 A.D., but there IS an e-mail address for JoJo at the
site:

[email protected]

I heard last week that it's a matter of being time to move on. He's moving to Florida to concentrate on voiceover work.

His departure was the typical story you hear all the time. Budget cuts with Entercom nationwide. It was NOT his choice.

I listened to him when he was known as Amesa Kincaid back in the '70's on WSGN in Birmingham. Man, what a talent!
I worked with him at his next stop, KSLQ in St. Louis. I did listen to him on WSGN before I went to St. Louis- knew him before working with him. Always was in awe of the guy.

That would kind of surprise me- he loves it here in California, unless something has changed that recently.

Based on the source that provided me with the information, I'm going to stand by what I posted.

Here's the real deal:

It was Entercom's budget adjustment that left no room for me. Management had to say bye bye looking sullen, ghostly and one fellow fighting back tears. I loved the cluster staff, Entercom in general, and they loved me back. And, I got to help launch a great sounding, one-of-a-kind radio station.

Personally, my Mom in Fla., where I grew up, has not been in good health for a while. I have always been geographically far away from her (except Y-100, Miami), wasn't able to visit and am considering relocating to be with her as much as possible before she passes. That would involve doing voice work and tracking shows for larger markets from my home studio at her place and getting a base gig at a station in my home town of Gainesville. CBS and Entercom are there already and I have a good Rep with both companies. This is all a 'B' plan and will depend on what opportunities show themselves over the next 2 weeks. That's the amount of time I plan on remaining in San Francisco.

Thanks for the love, ya'll. Here's my current contact info : [email protected] or the cell: 415.290.0246

JoJo!

Just tried calling but missed ya. Damned sorry you're out. I was looking forward to a daily sample again.

Phil Hawkins and I were discussing this earlier this week. I hope we can meet up before you head out to Florida- I'm living in Sacto, but work just down the highway from you in Fairfield.

Just to be clear, I meant that as an expression of surprise, not doubting what your (clearly correct) info was. I've seen a bunch of your stuff here, and you're pretty much on target when I've seen you post.

JoJo you will be greatly missed. I always said that you were one of the best talents we have seen here in along time. If you could bottle the energy that came off your show you could solve our nations energy dependence. Our prayers are with you and your family.

So why did Jo Jo leave 103.7 The Planet in San Diego?

Not to go off topic but the answer to that was having to endure the worst PD I've ever worked with in my career. Every day was like an ongoing nightmare. Even the Chief Engineer literally had to take time off for therapy. No joke.

Most people in the Bay Area know me as a regular caller to the sports talk shows on KNBR, and ocassionally I'll drop in a call to Steven Seaweed during the "Hot Lunch" segment of his show on 107.7 the Bone (KSAN).

But what I've really always wanted to do was host an Oldies/Classic Rock formatted radio show here in the Bay Area, where I've lived all of my life.

Being 54 years old, I've grown up on the KFRC/KYA/KMPX/KSAN music of the 60's & 70's, and still have all of the albums and 45's that I bought from 1967 to the present.

I currently have been DJ'ing live in the Poster Room Lounge @ the Fillmore once a month since 2002, playing my vinyl records.

The more I read and hear about how much these musical genres are dying on the radio, mixed with all of the jocks being let go, I think I'll just stick to DJ'ing live and continue to dream about a career in radio, which seems to be a dying art form.

I appreciate every single one of you for your contributions to radio as an art form, rather than a way to sell advertising.

In the immortal words of Pete Townshend... "Long live rock!"

Cheers!

To the people who have been instrumental in automating, syndicating and voice tracking mornings, middays, afternoons, night and overnights and overall put the final nail in the radio coffin YOU SHOULD BE ----!

Mays, Dykies, Bob Neal, Dan Mason, Sumner Redstone, Mel Karmazin, Farid Suleman and the rest....

Nope. Try this list: Paul Schaefer (sp), Bill Drake, Gene Chenault, Jim Schulke, Marlin Taylor, Ed Peters, Steve Trivers, Darryl Peters, etc. All from the 60's and 70's, not today.

(Redstone has likely never discussed voice tracking. He got into radio because he wanted the CBS TV net and related assets. To say he has been "instrumental" in automating is absurd.)

True - radio geeks my age remember FM in the 60s and early 70s. When I got my first AM/FM tuner (home, not car) in LA about 1968, FM stations either simulcast the AM (usually the same call letters), or were automated "Beautiful Music" stations. Those new "underground" rock FM stations had live DJs, but that was about it. One of the early successes was Drake/Chenault's "Hit Parade" (light rock hits), and later "Solid Gold" (Oldies and re-currents). In LA, it ran on KHJ-FM 101.1 It was fully automated - the pre-recorded voices announcing the artists and song titles were the KHJ "Boss Jocks." and they even told you the current time during the stop sets. Clever format. The station didn't go live until it became K-Earth about 1972 or 73.

It wasn't so great when the fool time announce carts (2, one for even minutes, one for odd) got off...and you had to cue through all the minutes and hours to get back in sync! Automation in the 60's worked ok, a lot of the time, but there were some pretty funny train wrecks, too. The ironic thing about voice tracking is that it still sounds best when a good board op matches the track and the music and elements up perfectly...either ahead of time, or in real time. Most of the systems really can't duplicate a good board op or air personality with good skills.

I don't remember KHJ-FM ever having problems with automation. About the same year, KRLA (AM Top 40) tried automation outside of drive times for about a year, and it was a total train-wreck. Sometimes, the same song with the same pre-recorded intro would repeat 2 or 3 times in a row, followed by a couple minutes of dead air. I used to wonder if there was even a board-op in the building,
