Jolly Joe And Imus

I have it on pretty good Authority that Don Imus actually called Jolly Joe Timmer one day this past week, an insider from the station told me about this and I did not believe it, but you never know, Timmer has been known to pull off the impossible. The number apparently came up private on caller ID, but the person who took the call swears that it was the actual Don Imus on the line because he recognized the voice.

well we never thought ken matthews would show up at WGPA and look who showed up. of course it didn't last. Imus would probably ask for a salary and Timmer would want him to sell his own show. LOL

Imus has a lot of money though and could easily afforf the time and get sponsors to eventually make the show profitable. Word has it that Imus is moving to the LV. He was spotted looking at homes in Upper Saucon Township. So, he could actually physically show up at the studio. Imagine Mark Thomas and Imus looking at each other through the glass!.

i think something better to imagine would be imus buying the station caus he realizes it has potential and with his business sense, and jolly joes lack there of, he could make something of the place instead of a dying polka haven. come to think of it.. he'd probably be smart enuff to hire ken matthews and a few others and then the other am stations would be crappin in thier diapers. but wait.. this is the lehigh valley... sigh... what was that phrase in the movie "a bronx tale" ... wasted talent??? we are great at being the place that is known to have great potential but never does anything with it. now if we changed that aspect we'd be just like boston winning the world series... what would we do with ourselves then??? hmmmmmm

Of course, Timmer would probably blow the deal to sell the station to Imus by insisting that he gets to keep his Polka show.

if Imus were to buy the station, whats wrong with timmer keeping his polka show? i think imus is a goofy enough guy that he'd actually encourage it. imus in the morning. polka lunch. BK the DJ all afternoon. jarret brown all night. pickle all weekend. what better lineup could there be?

and that my friends is a perfect example of small market thinking.

The point I was trying to make was that Timmer would blow a deal by insisting on some small point of it. I can see reasons why Imus would keep the "interesting" lineup that you suggest and I can see reasons why he wouldn't.

Let's really think about this though. If you are Don Imus, do YOU call regarding the station or do you have an attorney or "representative" call representing "someone interested in buying the station"? Imus has gone off the public radar and wouldn't be likely to surface through a phone call about buying an AM day-timer. Second, what Imus would really be after here would be the license. HE would be broadcasting from some remote studio - most likely at his home - and it is entirely possible that from that point he wouldn't care what the rest of the lineup would be like since he would then have a forum and a starting station to launch his own syndication. Which leads us to the next point. Imus would likely either simply do his own show on satellite or look to set up some sort of syndication situation with "like minded" broadcasters.

Don't get me wrong. I REALLY hope this story is true and having Imus come back to radio whether at GPA or anywhere else would be awesome. I just see some holes in it that are hard to ignore. On the other hand, I do know of somebody local who has often considered approaching Timmer about buying the station and mentioned it to me again a couple weeks ago. Yes, this person would have the money - easily - and has ties to broadcasting in this area in the past.

Anyway, again, I really hope that Imus surfaces soon, but my guess would be it will be on satellite.

I didn't really believe this at first but I kinda do now, my mother listens to Jolly Joe and yesterday she had him on and he mentioned something about Don Imus on the air, he didn't say he spoke to him or anything but just mentioned his name saying something about interesting talk shows and personalities. Weird ???

78 year old Erma Glockenspielt of Tatamy would have a heart attack if Opie and Anthony ever got on WGPA.

Erma would be fine. She's a pretty tough lady. She's one nap... sorry - I was getting caught up in the Imus rumors!
