Jolly Joe

JJT is having some health issues at the moment, but he is fervently working to make his return. He has been advised to rest by his Dr. There was an attempt to return to the airwaves a few weeks ago, but he was a bit sluggish and decided it was not in his best interest to return at that time. He had an operation. In the meantime Steve Capwell and others have done a great job keeping things afloat.

Thanks....Hope Joe gets well soon......He is lucky to have a good staff

Indeed. Timmer has an amazing staff. Capwell, Brown, Christman. Dean. Swagart. Richards. Etc. They're all legends! Pick on them all you folks want, but this is real radio. Live and local. The way it's supposed to be!

46 years of success......

WGPA is an amazing little station. Oldies and polkas....you can bet you won't hear this music anywhere here in the Seattle area with our yuppified radio dial. which is why hearing a station like WGPA over the web is culture shock at first, but one that could grow on you. Best wishes to Jolly Joe!

There is a board op employed for those shows, does that count as live and local?

No. That counts as being outdated and not having equipment to run it without a board op. If you've got a board op sitting there anyway, why not have them do something? See what they can do on the air, even if it's some sort of music.

A station needs programming to sell...some of it is on satellite. Unfourtunately, automation systems have been utilized by many radio groups for this type of programming. If WGPA did not have a board-op, it would be one more job cut by this industry. Joe could have automated it...he chose to keep someone working in radio, even if it is for a low salary. I believe that the current board ops do a live music show, either before or after syndication. Many other stations are automated ALL of the time. I always thought board ops should multitask anyway (production, etc.)...I did when I was one.

I just heard about jolly Joe. I hope he is doing well and returns soon. I have fond memories from my tenure at WGPA from 94-96....Mike "Jacobs" McKenna ( also on FB )
