Jon and Sherri out at Klove

I kust read that Jon and Sherri Rivers are out at Klove. Anyone know what happened? Forgive me if this is posted somewhere else.

The only thing I can find anywhere online is vague references to the Rivers' having some sort of unspecified family issues/problems, and that Mike Novak (of K-Love) is allegedly making some kind of statement, either on-air or via email (unclear) that tells people the Rivers are off K-Love for good and that listeners should pray for them.

Lisa Williams is on KLove this morning and all she has really said is "As you know Jon and Sherri are no longer with us as apart of the klove family and our president has asked you all to pray for them and for us as we go thru this change"

Wow, that is a shock, particularly since the pretty much anchored the network. Nothing on the website....the "on-air" part is "under maintenance.

A friend of mine who owns CCM stations put it best a few years ago: "The Christian army is the ONLY army that kills its wounded." Jon and Sherri have touched a lot of lives and will continue to do so. God bless them!

The last thing the Rivers need is for a gossip chain to begin here on this board. I believe, as Christians, we should respect their privacy and pray that God will heal and mend the issues that are going on.

They don't need our gossip and speculation but our support and prayers.

As has been stated, rumors should remain squelched and praying of the Rivers should be paramount. But it's hard not to let the imagination run wild -- it's very sad for so many reasons. I'm 41 years old, yet still "young" enough to fondly remember listening to Jon on "Powerline" in the early to mid 80s. I believe I have a vinyl LP of that program somewhere in my likely-moldy vinyl record collection. My prayers are with the entire Rivers family, K-Love and its listeners. God bless them and give them strength.

I wonder what will happen to 20 The Countdown Magazine and if K-Love will still carry it.

Did you ever work in Baton Rouge? We had a Brian Stevens in the 90s. As for Jon and Sherri I hope they are on somewhere soon. I am sure Jon will be very soon. You dont just walk away from 30 years experience.

Why not? It seems to be one of the things we Christians are best at. I have been the victim of gossip at a toxic church. It is amazing to me that we retain as many converts to Christianity as we do - given the incompetent way we treat them when they have need for spiritual growth. And personnel practices at Christian ministries - like something out of Mutiny on the Bounty. I am surprised there aren't wrongful termination lawsuits daily in some of these ministries.

Is John Rivers still doing the legal IDs for “K-Love” stations? It’s always his voice you hear at the top of the hour identifying the actual “K-Love” station.

You do know that it isn't "do unto others as they have done unto you"? That's old testament!

I'm assuming that most of that was facetious, but if it wasn't, then "at a toxic church" should be the big warning there.
Toxic churches and the things they do don't help anybody, except to give the "Do not do this" examples. Man if we all shoot for "toxic church" level, there ain't no hope left for any of us except The Return. :)

The call to gossip was facetious. The toxic church was all too real. I also call it the small church syndrome, where a tiny group of people control everything because they pay the bills and do the volunteering. If you are in their little club, you have a good experience. If you aren't in their clique - watch out because they are talking behind your back about your relative spirituality. Let's just say - I enjoy the experience of worship at mega-churches more because there is a decent chance of going, and being anonymous and sincere in worship, then becoming known through service, and finally breaking into the upper levels as your dedication becomes known.

How many victims of toxic churches litter the spiritual landscape of the US? Ask the converts to atheism, Islam and other religions where they came from, why they rejected Christianity. In the majority of cases, it is because they had a bad experience in a church, and didn't know to focus on Jesus and not His flawed followers.

I know what happened and it doesn't appear to a problem between Jon and Sherri. The problem is between Jon and Sherri and Klove.

Klove really botched up the PR side of this:

You've probably heard by now and noticed that Jon & Sherry aren't on K-LOVE anymore. They are dealing with family issues and while we wish we could say more we simply can’t.

Many of you are wondering “Have Jon and Sherry been fired?”. No, that is simply not true. This life situation developed between Jon and Sherry apart from K-LOVE.

Again, Jon and Sherry are dealing with family issues and while we wish we could say more we simply can’t.

I know all of this sounds vague and I wish that it was clearer but right now it’s not. We are respecting the privacy of people who have been part of our radio family for years and that respect is paramount right now.

When we hear an update from Jon and Sherry we’ll pass it along to you and at that point we will both know more.

In the meantime, we will soon provide an opportunity at KLOVE.com to share your feelings, hopes and prayers for Jon and Sherry.

I’ll keep you posted. Thank you.

These vague references only creates more problems than it solves!

They say they weren't "fired" here but as reported in an email they said it was decided to "discontinue" the show.

This "life situation apart from Klove" reference while might be technically true (about anything could be considered that), seems to be mostly like spin on Klove's part.

Whatever...

As of today his IDs are still on the stations in the Memphis and West TN area. Something I wonder is if 20 The Countdown Magazine will still be on K-LOVE, and if there will be any changes there.

It probably is major undertaking changing all of those stations. Last I knew EMF only uses a simple "DVR" type device at its transmitter sites, requiring human to go out there to update it.

Reading between the lines ---- Yet another deplorable example of incredible bad behavior on the part of a Christian ministry, and attempting to spiritualize it and make their bad behavior sound like it is "of the Lord" and we should touch God's annoited, the Holy Spirit told us to do it, etc. etc. I've heard it all, it never makes it in the Lord's will, somebody didn't like them or something they were doing and canned them, they might as well just come on the air and tell the truth.

There is a new host for this weeks 20: The Countdown Magazine, however I don't know if its permanent or temporary, or whether K-Love will be airing the show. It sounds like it might be a guy named Garrett White or Whitehead. Not sure myself who he is, but there is a host change, at least for this week.

I can get a hold of Westar and find out for sure.
