Jon-David Wells Representing Dallas, TX in Washington, D.C.

Conservative talk radio, which has shown that it can mobilize millions of Americans on important public policy issues, is tackling the immigration issue and giving Americans the opportunity to make themselves seen and heard through a "Hold Their Feet to the Fire" rally from April 22-26, 2007, in Washington, D.C. The Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR) and there representing Dallas/Ft.Worth, TX is Jon-David Wells of 570 KLIF "The Wells Report". Along with JDW will be dozens of radio talk-show hosts from across the country who have already committed themselves to attending the event and broadcasting live from “Radio Row” on Capitol Hill. Other Texans that will be there are: Pat Gray, KVCE, KSEV, Dallas/Houston, TX; Edd Hendee, KVCE, KSEV, Dallas/Houston, TX; Dominick Brascia, KOLE, Beaumont, TX;
Lynn Woolley, Syndicated, Central TX; and Chris Baker, KTRH, Houston, TX.
Dallas/Ft. Worth is behind you J-D! Best of luck and go get 'em! We'll be listening. :D

Lynn Wooley is about the only credible person their is and any talk show from KVCE is a VERY VERY VERY BAD joke, especially if the work for Dan Patrick whose own politcal party has voted against every single bill he has brought to the floor of the state legislature. If Himmler was alive,I am sure he would be his executive producer.

This is about the only thing i can agree with right wingers on. Good luck Amigos ;D

True, I agree wholeheartedly with the subject matter. They just need a better voice to express it with, than these Barnum and Bailey understudies.

Nothing personal Jon. Its just that it's a hot button subject( just like elections) and one host has a tendency to try and out "conservative" the other, thus the subject is lost in theatrics and drama, not substance. KVCE is a solid prime example with their Mexican flag hoisted on their tower, which most know it was put up there by KVCE,then act innocent.
Just discuss the issue, even handedly, and get the factual inforrmation across, not the yelling , "go get'em po'ed type " It then becomes a complete farce with so many trying to Be Rush,Sean or worse Bill O'reilly.
If you want drama, theatrics, yelling, etc. take up community theatre. If you want to do a talk show deliver the facts, the WHOLE FACTS, not parts of and embellish the rest,Have two sides presented, not one, and let listeners decide, not the same ten age 55+ white guys whose main occupation is to call in on talk shows. Then maybe just maybe something might actually be appealing.

Hey JD, think about engineering...

The best way to build a bridge is to find two solid, unwavering foundations... build from both sides... and meet in the middle.

Sound like anything you should consider to keep their feet to the fire. Major issues become major EVENTS with the Rambo approach. I can't stand feeble-minded, knobby-kneed folk (which I must say, you are not), so I am not saying walk in with the white flag around your head like a do-rag of surrender. I only recommend is have a strategy that gets people thinking instead of pissing on each other.

This is a good effort with many salient points... make the most of it. We are rooting for you.

I agree with ‘Plex in saying it is a tough subject. But if anyone can hold his own in this subject, it’s J-D. He has been dealing with this touchy area for a while now and not just in this market, but his previous one also.

Believe me, he always does... He’s not just another blow hard conservative who blows smoke, yells, and carries on. That’s not his style. Never has been. He backs up his info with truth and facts. I know him from his previous market and know if there is anyone that should be in D.C. representing the metroplex, it SHOULD be J-D Wells. So rest easy DFW, you’ve got the right man going to represent you; you’re in good hands! Good Luck J-D! We're behind you!

Very nicely said. Your user name suits you well. Listening to "The Wells Report" daily I feel confident and tend to agree with you when you say we have the right man going. He's accurate, precise, and usual hits the nail right on the head and I don't expect anything less from his broadcasts from D.C. I know he can deliver. No pressure J-D. ;D

'PLEX, Voce, & NUT....

First, let me say thanks for the good words, and advice. When I came to Dallas, I said that this was our show, and I'm still not kidding. I truly appreciate the interest in the trip to DC, and will sincerely do my very best.

What I intend is to go to Washington, ascertain the exact positions of the entire North Texas Congressional Delegation regarding Illegal Immigration, including our Senators, and then report that information back to the Metroplex. I will deliver the message about what we expect them to do, and wait to see if they comply. We will either find and encourage a sea-change in the way our malfunctioning Federal Government handles the issue, or return with a list of politicians about to return to the private sector. I realize that may not be especially flashy or controversial, but we've waited long enough for meaningful action....and we will have it on our watch.

As for the rest of the show, all of us do our utmost to plan for and arrange opportunities for both sides of any given issue to tell their side of the story. We've found two difficulties; 1.) When the other side fails to take part, (Rick Perry....54 invitations for him to join us, 1 returned call, 0 appearances), and 2.) After we get the information out, like most Talk Show Hosts, I tell the audience what I think. That brings up what may be a disconnect....When I tell people what I think about a topic, it's almost like people are hearing me lay down the law for all times and all people. What I'd like to get across is that my opinion is only a part of the discussion, not the entire discussion. Perhaps when more people get to know me better....

In my view, the days of Republican bombast are way over for Talk Radio. This medium must now advocate for the people who are cut out of the special-interest agenda....and regardless of party, demand the honest government, and representation our Constitution guarantees.

Again, My Sincere Thanks....

J-D

JD Wells. You have my respect and I wish you success. I rather hear an informational show not confrontational. As for Rick Perry, surprised? I know I am shocked.;) Lowest margin ever for a re-elected Governor of Texas...sad.

Settle down, folks. It sounds like some are losing sight of the objective.

No one honestly expects a group of local conservative talk show hosts to affect any meaningful change. If scores of people with national followings from radio, TV and print can’t influence change, there’s little hope of success on the part of locals. And that’s not even the point.

It’s a promotional opportunity, and not a bad one. Several legislators will likely take the time to talk with their constituents. After all, this is a promotional opportunity for them, as well. Win-win.

If I were going to offer advice to JD it would be (A), be your own man and be careful with whom you are aligning yourself. Being new to Texas you may not be familiar with Edd Hendee’s activism; and (B), the subject matter (immigration) has become stale.

STALE? Have you bothered telling Domingo and his crusaders (or LULAC, NCLR or NALEO) that really off-base statement? Hint: If you do, bring a lunch. You gonna be there a while. :-X

Lunch hell. Charter a Winnebago, at least you'll have a chance to take a well deserved nap during the Cajejo-Dominguez"Where's my mic and camera?" traveling road show.

I apologize for not explaining myself more clearly, because Veritas…and KPLEX…have made my point for me. Let me explain.

As shown in the Cajejo-Dominguez event as well as countless other debates on the subject, the topic of immigration has been beat to death. We’ve seen this issue argued ad nauseam. And what changes have we seen? Virtually none. Our elected officials chose to make this a political issue rather than an American issue. And we all know that when politics becomes the #1 priority, the only ones who win are the politicians.

So, when I say immigration is a stale issue I mean I’m tired of hearing about an issue that will not change in the immediate future. Not until we see a wholesale change in attitudes and priorities in Washington.

Over the last couple of hours I asked 9 people I work with what they thought of the issue of immigration, illegal aliens and the media coverage of the issue. The results of my purely unscientific study are that every person agrees on the seriousness of the issue. All nine people agree that it has now become a political issue. All nine also agree that the incessant harping in the various forms of media has become old. That, to me, spells a disconnect – at least on the part of the people in my seat-of-the-pants survey.

From my “man on the street” perspective, regardless of how righteous we may be on a given issue, beating a dead horse still leaves you with nothing, in the end, but a dead horse – sort of stale after a while.

JD, a suggestion: While I admire the job you are doing about 98% of the time, you might give some thought to which battles you chose to fight, and how you wish to deal with some of these "dead horse" issues.

Survivor....

Thanks for your advice....We left the immigration topic alone as soon as we could. We got a break when Carlos Quintinilla melted down with a racist tirade on the show, and gave us an out. (I think that was late January.) We picked it up again recently in preparation for the May 12th election in Farmers Branch.

My position has always been that the real problem lies inside the Washington D.C. Beltway, so when FAIR invited me to the "Hold Their Feet to the Fire" event, going became an obvious step.

As I said in an earlier post, I'm going there to find out what the official public positions of our U.S. Senators and the individual members of the North Texas Congressional Delegation are on this issue, inform them of the position of the listeners I've talked to in Dallas/Ft. Worth, and then, along with the audience of "The Wells Report" hold them accountable for their viewpoints and actions....including those who will try to provide no position, or action. Not very flashy, but hopefully functional for the voters.

Thanks Again for Your Thoughts....

You know JD, since we are friends and all... why not have a blogger's round table with your buddies? You know, what a Wells Report that would be. We can crack open some sodas, set open some popcorn and talk all things Dallas:

> Who's going to be indicted NEXT in City Hall?
> How about that Mayoral race, and who cares...er... knows?
> Immigrants! Hey Farmers Branch, look who is moving in?
> Staying real despite CUME-less ownership
> And of course, just how are you doing on the Bally Challenge?

;D

That would be something I would like to take part in. Great idea VOCE! And, now that you brought it up, just how are you doing, JD, in that Bally challenge along with Jeff Bolton? Inquiring minds would like to know :D

Voce....Great idea on the panel discussion.

If anyone's interested, send me an email to [email protected]. Maybe we can do a "'Dallas Insiders" show on the weekend?

PS: Re the Fitness Challenge. All I can say is that Jeff had better be working really, really hard.

Very interesting concept JD...a weekend panel show would be a great way to go. But, let's get you through D.C. first and we can all brain storm after you return. I will be dropping you an email with some ideas then. :D
