Greetings from the Philly Board,

FYI, John David Wells has landed in Wilmington, Delaware on WDEL. And earlier this summer he did some fill in work on ABC's WMAL in Washington. He is in the unenviable position of replacing Rush Limbaugh with a local show in Wilmington (Clear Channel pulled the show off WDEL after they bought a competitor in the market).

If you're a fan, you can listen to him online. The station streams at http://www.wdel.com/. His show airs live from 9 am to 12 noon (Pacific Time - 12 noon to 3 pm Eastern Time).

I read some of the old posts about him on this board, but can you fill us in on the guy? What's his story?

Re: John David Wells

He is a fine talent, too good for Las Vegas.

Greetings from Cloudy, and green Wilmington, Delaware....

First off....thanks for the kind words! (They were a wonderful surprise...) Bless you both.

Actually, I'm auditioning for this job this week. And you're right Bierk...this is a cast-iron bitch. I have no problems competing with Rush Limbaugh. Following him, however, is a totally different story. First, the listeners are pissed....and they've been lulled into a passive state. Rush doesn't take too many calls, and this is a L&L show.

Rick Jensen, the PD, is really sharp. In fact, the station has real history....signing on in 1922. There's a picture of Harry Truman making a speech from the back of his campaign train with the WDEL mic flag, and banner on display in the lobby. Real Radio.

There are more heavy news people in WDEL's newsroom than in all of Las Vegas radio stations combined. Joe McCarthy, Rae Stodlwee, Cory Olsen, and a couple of the Metro anchors could fit in seamlessly, but it sure is a dynamic shop.

As for the rest....Next week I'll be doing double-duty. 9-Noon Eastern Time on WMAL, and afternoon drive on KOOL 93.1 while Dan Arthur is in basic training with the US Army.

Otherwise, I'm either looking for a new permanent radio home in Las Vegas, or moving on to parts unknown as of this writing....But either way, it sure has been nice to find real broadcasting pros who care more about their community than the company's stock price.

Rick,

I get that a lot. While I'm happily employed at KOOL, I have decided to join the Reserves. I'm excited to get going. Rather than going into all the details here, I invite you to visit my blog at http://www.danarthur.com - scroll down a bit and you'll see some explanation as to why I joined the military.

JD - thanks again for helping out. It excites me to think that a guy with your talent will be filling in for me. I just hope the audience isn't too disapointed when I come back :) Thanks again.

Dano,

It wasn't meant as a shot, I think you know that. But imagine your surprise if you read the same about me, I can just hear you now...NO WAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Great way to get to know who you are, and what you're about. Good luck in basic. Say hi to the lovely Erika for me, and God Bless. RB

Yeah, I knew you weren't slamming on me. I don't mind explaining why I chose to go down this road. You should see the looks I get when I tell people what's going on. PRICELESS!

Danny....How could anyone want an old CHR fossil more than an American Hero?

I'm honored just to have the chance to walk a mile in your combat boots...
