Jon Klein Out As CNN President

http://mediadecoder.blogs.nytimes.com/2010/09/24/jonathan-klein-to-leave-cnn/

Everybody saw this coming, but this soon? While the move is long overdue, I do question the timing of it. Not only is it prior to Larry King's exit (and the start of the mighty Piers Morgan's reign on the network) but Klein's ouster is not even before the debut of his new brainchild "Parker/Spitzer," which only bows in a couple of weeks from now.

Wow, two big exits in one day. First, Jeff Zucker at NBC, and now this. You know that saying "these things come in threes"... I have a gut feeling we're not done for the day just yet...

CNN has become unwatchable during his tenure. The decision to hire Client #9 was the "icing on the cake" that sealed it for me. I have no idea how Piers Morgan would do.

To me, CNN overextended itself by trying to be like the BBC and thinking that it's a worldwide operation. I don't think the rest of the world cares whether CNN is trying to reach them or not. Sort of like how the domestic audience have slowly abandoned it. But given their name and status, they can come back. So FNC should not be crowing too much about the news.

Good riddance. Seriously, CNN had no idea how to deal with competition from Fox. They never should have considered Fox competition. Once they did decide Fox's "news/talk" format was competition, they tried to copy them. Then when that didn't wortk, they tried to go back and do what they considered "serious" journalism with people who are not serious journalists. They have kept Larry King on long after he quit being a capable talk show host. They have been slow to figure out what they're doing wrong.
