Jon Manley Out At WKQX

In other news, the Q101 moniker is returning to 101.1 FM.
Which is a beyond smart business move, IMHO. But will gold return to the playlist when the moniker does? Q101 is iconic in Chicago; I’m just curious if Cumulus is going to blend gold into the playlist or stick with a current-recurrent playlist.

If the programming remains mediocre, any curiosity arising from the return of the moniker will be temporary. How many listeners even notice it is gone, of if they have noticed - care?

Q101's glory years ended almost two decades ago. From the mid 00's onward, it was a generally mediocre station with crappy ratings and sinking billing.

There already is gold being blended into the playlist. About five songs played an hour are more than a decade old (and a high percentage of those are more than fifteen years old).

It's been awkward. People frequently say "Q101" to them and they have been having to sort of brush off what was just said to them. Now people can call it "Q101" all they want and they can respond to that all they want. They also don't have to worry about whether someone is going to another website (Look at the reviews on the Q101 app in the iOS store, one of the most recent was someone who was angry that they couldn't hear WKQX)

Jon was perhaps the sacrificial lamb to free up money in the budget to purchase the Q101 IP. Maybe, maybe not. Probably not that simple, but the timing of both events prompts me to float that theory.
