Jon Ryan

Where the heck is the "Son Of Don Raker" these days? Last I saw him was in 1994 at WRVV/Harrisburg. You wanna talk about a voice that is instantly associated with Reading radio in the 1980's, that's your guy. When I first listened to Y102, it was Mike Shannon in the morning, John Rocktashel, Jon Ryan, and for some reason I can't remember who was on at night. I know Nick Harris returned later in the 80's for evenings...but who was nights before him? Unless it was Rocktashel at night, and Jim Ryker "The Dancing Bear" earlier. Mike...help me out on the 80's timeline of jocks at Y102! I grew up with your baby!

Jon Ryan sells cemetary plots and is a volunteer fireman. John Rocktashel sells nuts.

80's night jocks were Mary Anne Banks (she lives in Vegas now), Rocktashel and Freddie (who developed his voice by talking into a shoe (real story...ask him)

Ryker was midday until he put on a CD and walked out the back door one day at noon. He was replaced by Trapper.

Hmmmm. I should write a book!

It wasn't long after that he showed up doing mornings at Mix 107.5 during their last gasps. In fact, Jon Ryan was there too for a time in afternoons. I remember being so happy there was some actual FM competition on the dial in Reading. Though, that sure didn't last too long. What a beautiful facility though (at WYCL). Too bad they couldn't afford it!!!

I recently dug up an old tape of Ryker from Zoo 102 (WZUE) in Carlisle. Had to be 1981/82. Wonder where HE ended up?

By the way, if you wrote a book, I'd be in there as the #1 Y102 prize pig from 1988-93. I found just about every way to scam you guys, all for a dumb cassette! Those were the days. Now I do my best to scam the scammers from the OTHER side of the fence! Kinda like the FBI hiring a career criminal to catch others.

Thanks, Stosh! I won't name that PD, but I will tell a little story that made me smile. Many years after the Y102 blow-off, I was working middays at Q102/Philly. I was at the Bobby Poe convention in DC, sitting at a bar. Who saunters up to the bar but that PD and his MD. I put on a BIG smile, reached out, shook their hands, and was complimented by them on my station, Q102. I said, "thanks so much! And thank you for blowing me off TWICE 6 years ago! As you can see...it was WAY BETTER that way!" I then walked away. I'll hafta share another fun story with you regarding said individual in private e-mail.

By the by, I used to listen to you on Z95, dude! Always a fan of your work. I worked in the valley for a time at the old 96 WLEV, and something tells me we MAY have met many moons ago. Thanks again for the note :)

...i don't remember the name you used on 96 wlev, working there was an 'out of body experience' as a friend of mine once said (he said it just didn't sound like me on 'lev'.........private email is [email protected] and let me know when i can borrow your pipes.....

Well there were only ever three PD's at Y-102 and one was only there for 6 months. Since I don't think he's talking about me (pre 1990 and never attended a Poe convention) I guess that exposes the 'nameless' one.

LOL, Mike...I've got NO problems with you, buddy! Don't really have problems with the guy in question, either. Just got jerked around by the guy once and it left a bad taste in my mouth.

And hey, I never mentioned names. It COULD have been Steve Wilson! LOL...that sure was a short tenure.
