Jonesey 103.1

Say hello to Jonesey 103.1

Entravision execs shocked the LA Radio scene Saturday and handed over complete control of KDLD/KLDE 103.1 known as Indie 103.1 to their most famous host Steve Jones, former bandmate of the Sex Pistols. He thus has decided to re name it Jonesey 103.1 because in his view "it's the only thing that will be free form."

Many people in LA were taken back by the move. Local Radio Consultant KM Richards had figured Entravision would pull the plug on Indie and replace it with spanish Launguage programming as that is Entravision's primary focus(it also owns Spanish CHR KSSE/KSSC/KSSD 107.1 and Tropical KLLY 97.5. And David Eduardo, a Program Exec for Univision Radio which is the largest Spanish Language broadcaster in the US stated "we had heard that they had Jose(a Spanish Variety Hits format) all ready to go and that it would compete against our Recurdo(KRCD 103.9/KRCV 98.3)" But Entravision execs insist that there is no false move in handing control to a jock that prior to today had a 2 hour show that broke the mold of even the free form alternative rock format. "Steve Jones is just a brilliant Bloke that knows how to shake things up and we feel he is a great assest to the station" stated Michael Steele, PD of Indie. Michael Steele states in fact he has been asked by Entravision execs to stay on as a assistant to Steve Jones. "For me, it is just a honor and a pleasure to serve Mr Jones" says Steele.

Some people laughed. "What the hell is next" KROQ PD Kevin Weatherly asked. "They make John Salley the VP of Programming at Radio One"? "It is so stupid. That station has never amounted to nothing in the 2 years it's been on and it's been through so many formats it makes Jennifer Lopez look more commited" adds Weatherly.

But Jones doesn't see it that way "Hey man, we're just gonna have fun and play what we want".

"You know, if they had their own signal they'd play what they want too" adds Jones

No one is sure if this will help 103.1 out. But one things for sure, it's never a dull day at LA's weakest FM Frequency.

And in a reactive move, rumor has it that David Eduardo quickly flipped KSCA to Indie 101.9 citing the excellent billing and all of the support Indie recieved on 103.1. He also stated that indie is highly popular among Hispanics and that the 103.1's didn't penetrate hispanic zips in the LA metro very well.
Rumor also has it that David is preparing an Adult Standards format for KLVE. Stating that advertiser perspectives of the 65+ age group are all wrong, he is hoping this audience doesn't all die off before he proves the ad agencies wrong.
As for KRCD/V, look for a format switch to either Spanish rock or Spanish News and Talk, judging by how sucessful both of these formats have been with assimilated Hispanics.

Happy April Fools day !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

As long as we're having fun on this special day ...

It was also revealed that Entravision was tweaking the "Super Estrella" format on the 107.1 trimulcast to be less of a Spanish-language CHR and more of a Spanish-language version of Indie.

I will be consulting the new format. First on my "to-do" list is to convince Chris Carter of KLSX to cut new vocals for a Spanish version of Dramarama's "Last Cigarette" ("El Cigarro Ultimo").

All of these moves caught Saul Levine by surprise, who had hoped flip to "classic Alternative" as the latest format on 1260.<P ID="signature">______________
