Jordan Rich

I periodically listen to Jordan's show on the weekend and I'm curious about a few things--they might have been mentioned here before but I couldn't find the thread. Is his block time-leased? Also, he seems to interview a lot of people flogging books or other services. Are these paid infomercials masquerading as interviews?

Yes, that supposition has appeared here in the past. The last time I listened to Jordan Rich, he had on ther conductor of a classical music organization, the Masterworks Chorale, named Steven Karidoyanes. The ensemble's next concert is this coming Friday, and the hour was given over to playing some pieces and asking listeners to identify them. The selections were so easy, I didn't bother. Whether Rich is just a friend of Steven and wants to help publicize his group, or some moolah traded hands, I don't know.

I haven't listened to this show in years, but at one time I was told a lot of his interviews are recorded in advance outside of the station at his production company and played back. I guess a good way to tell if he has a live interview is if he allows live callers to call in and speak to the guest. Unless the calls are staged as well and recorded. Someone who listens on a regular basis would have to fill us in on that.

SonicAl,

I brought up this very topic a couple of years ago...when his format changed from call-in talk to...sadly, just what you brought up now. It would seem that his time is well, er, paid for, since about 95% of the show is book hawking or other services.

Excluded from that is movie night, which I don't really enjoy either...but I can tolerate movie & book, and tv night - oh yeah, and the car guys are good.

The guests selling books & such & pre-recorded segments are too much for me though.

I tune in to a talk program to hear just that - talk, live talk, call - in specifically. Many may remember that years ago Jordan's show was just that - a listener participation live call in show, and it was wonderful.

The show has become a shadow of its former self. Jordan is great...but the show stinks to high heaven...

...and he's not about to change things...

::) ::) ::)

His show changed rather significantly after BZ went to paid broadcasts on weekends like Komando and the "Risk" show.
He had been doing pretty much straight talk with no interviews--though occasional guests-- prior to that.

Last year I procured a nearly a full half hour on Jordan's show for chef/food coach Marketing/PR client of mine. I can state emphatically no money changed hands. The guy is a class act and a consummate professional.

I think his (Jordan's) talking down to/making fun/jest at some callers is a bit much. Mary from Maine is one that he does this with, and there is a Portuguese fellow who no longer calls the show - I know for a fact that he grew tired of the constant smart @#$%^ jabs that were thrown his way...

Class act...whatever... ::)

Mary from (Kittery) Maine is a nutjob. When Rob produced Steve's show he wouldn't even let her on the air.

LOL - yeah, I know - that was a bad example. But she does make for funny radio. It almost sounds like a pre-rehearsed bit between the caller & host.

I stand by what I said though on the other callers(s). BTW, I also think he should stop taking calls from Nazi Scott...that guy is way over the edge & it only makes the show turn ugly...

Tonight Jordan Rich had someone on who sounded like he was from a new age cult. It must have been an infomercial I had to turn off the radio.
