Josh Bernstein leaves KNXV

There's been tension between Josh and the ND for a LONG time. Now... just days after earning 6 Emmy nominations including one for Investigative Reporting (the only one in Arizona, mind you)... he's out the door. Says boss Hengemuehler, "Before he left today, he promised to let us know about his next great opportunity when the time is right. We will post and begin the search for a new investigative reporter immediately."

Like him? Can't stand him? No impact?

Other than seeing his profile on the station web site, I really don't recall much of his reporting. Perhaps that's the station's fault, though. ABC15 needs to give the viewer a compelling reason to tune in.

For example, ABC15 could repeat some of their newscasts on 5.2 (the weather channel) at certain times. They could repeat their 6pm newscast at 7pm and, perhaps, Now@9 at 9PM for those of us who aren't home. Repeat the 10pm newscast at 11pm, for example. Then, I might be able to see these "star" reporters.

Exactly....Emmy nominations are great but if no one sees the product, who cares? I bet if you asked 100 people in AZ who Josh Bernstein was I would guess 99 people wouldn't know.

I think I know who this guy is, but honestly not sure if I am right. Would have to go to the webpage and see. I don't watch KNXV all that much for news. I have seen Now @ 9 and really like that show.

The last investigative reporter I really remember is Lisa Fletcher, who was really good. She even made national attention on Good Morning America. ABC picked her up really fast.

I believe, but correct me if I'm wrong, that at one point reporter Ann Yeager was promoted to investigator. Not sure if she is still with the station.

I was channel surfing the other night, with my OTA antenna and came across Tim Vetcher and was shocked by his weight loss.

I'm joining the chorus with a shrug of my shoulders and just unsure of who this guy is, I will say this, ABC 15 needs a complete overhaul, with the exception of NOW @ 9, revamp everything else.

Boy do we have fun being the armchair CEOs on this board, with our anonymity.

If I were ABC I'd want off KNXV. Aren't they #5 in the Phoenix news ratings, behind even KTVK?

But it's all about the stations' OWNERS now!

Belo owns WFAA and WVEC and KVUE and WHAS...? That might be a good bargaining chip. At the very least KTVK has a much more established news operation (but that needs significant work, something even I could do for them!).

How long does Scripps' current ABC contract run? Anybody know?

I'm sorry. I was being a bit lazy today. My thought was that Scripps has more major market stations affiliated with ABC than Belo does. Scripps was the one who insisted on the ABC affiliation for KNXV in the first place. That being said, I don't know how long the ABC agreement runs.

Scripps was so worried about WXYZ and WEWS flipping to CBS that it went a bit overboard (signing everybody except KJRH and KSHB to ABC – those two stayed/switched to NBC, as Allbritton and Hearst (owners of the ABC affiliates) had their own strong ties to ABC). At the time, ABC was number one, of course, but NBC became the big leader out of the switch. Scripps does own more stations, yes, but WFAA (their flagship) is probably up there with WRAL, KSL, WABC, WBZ, WCVB, etc. as one of America's great stations. (Their other ABCs are smaller, though, and Belo owns affiliates of the other networks, too.)

2015? I thought affiliation contracts were for 10 years.
