Josh Leaving KILT

He will be missed in Houston...all around great guy!

wow. With Rowdy heading out the door, and with H&H, Jim Carola, T-J and R-B already gone, KILT is officially dead dead dead. Put up the tombstone marked RIP.

It's the end of an era in Houston radio. Those great personalities plus a few others were the reasons people listened to KILT over the years, and with them gone there's no reason to even listen anymore.

Oh well. Houston's loss is Tulsa's gain. He will have no trouble landing a good gig in Tulsa, and he will do very well up there. Bon voyage Josh, and don't EVER forget you have a lot of friends back here in Houston. Keep in touch here on Radio-Info.

He is an all around nice guy. As I recall he was the major force behind the reunion at Tin Hall a couple of years back and very active in the TRHOF.

Josh Holstead,,,aka "Rowdy Yates", is a larger than life person,,and personality. I've known Josh for many years, and am honored to be able to call him my friend. There is no single person that I have come in contact with during my 22 years in radio, that has done more for me, and my career. Josh always took my call before I came to Houston, and when I told him that I was coming down here, he stood up and got me a job here at KILT. He has always stood up for his friends, and the people that couldn't stand up for themselves in this business. He is a superhero in my eyes, and will be sorely missed in this building, in Houston, and by me personally. I admire him, and respect him tremendously.

At the same time I know that he and Kim are excited about the possibilities that await them in Tulsa.

Best wishes my friend!

Best wishes on the move for Josh! If he wants a radio gig in Tulsa I'm sure someone would be quite happy to hire him.

All I can say here is I concur will all the comments from everyone regarding Josh -- He's a true class act and will sorely be missed.

God Bless and God Speed Josh!

Josh.... wow... this is so wrong in so many ways, yet so right in so many more. Houston radio will definately feel the loss of a great talent, and one helluva friend. Best wishes to you and Kim and don't forget when you come down from time to time... give a shout and let us know you're in town.

For someone on the outside looking in, may I ask why he is leaving?

Not that it is any of my business but sometimes the reason is public. I can't fathom a Tulsa station offering more money than a Houston one.

Of course, I've been wrong before.

Needless to say, you'll be missed. I enjoyed my brief stint with Coach Lee's promotion staff in 2000 while also working on the railroad and at a small station in Brenham. Sooo... that's how I know you sort of. ;D

It was was fun working events with yourself, Leslie, Tom (is he still wrestling? lol) and Dylan among others. Good times, too bad radio in general has taken the course that it has (AUTOMATION) or it might have been different outcomes for alot of us "newbies."

Take care!
Gary

***his wife was transferred to Tulsa.***

So he quit his job to go there and be with her. He is what is known as "the trailing spouse."
Usually it's the wife who has to quit a job to follow her husband to a new job in another town.

I salute Josh for loving and respecting his wife so much he would quit HIS job and move to Tulsa essentially unemployed and looking for a new full time gig. It takes a special guy to do that.

But let us not worry too much about Josh's prospects. He IS Rowdy Yates after all, a national personality, and somebody in Tulsa will have the good sense to hire him at a salary Josh can live with.

Good morning my radio family. I cannot begin to express my gratitude for all the kind words.

I am very excited about the unknown, but really stoked about the possibilities. Rest assured we WILL still have our *BIG* Houston Radio Reunion (and probably this year) and I am jazzed about getting even more involved w/ the Texas Radio Hall of Fame. (Even though I will be living in Oklahoma.) Scott Arthur, Leslie T, The Colonel and a few others have agreed to help with any loose ends on what is about to be YOUR end of the Red River.

[email protected] is my e-mail, and probably will be forever. Drop me a note from time to time!

If time allows (and we are back from Rockport for Kim’s big family sendoff) I’ll be at Willie’s in Sugar Land for Big Trash Monday on the 25th.
