Journal trying to expand in Tucson?

Kent's posting is interesting. The 29 page document esentially calls for Journal to buy Channel 3 in Omaha from Emmis. The contract also calls for one of Ted Tucker's companies to buy KOMJ (AM), also in Omaha, from Journal. Last year, Journal bought KGUN-9 from Emmis so there is a parallel to Tucson. The Omaha deal was arranged by Kalil brokers which is based in Tucson.

In the past, the Tuckers have had very little interest in AM radio as there is more money to be made upgrading FMs.

What relationship this deal in Omaha might have to Tucson radio isn't really clear. KRDX needs another frequency swap before it will be viable in Tucson. The Tuckers will drag their feet on moving KKYZ until they can get some backfill for Sierra Vista. KKYZ, as a Sierra Vista station, is probably worth a million. It's a case of wanting to have your cake and eat it too.

Could the recent changes at Journal be part of this? First they changed 104.1 to talk and now there are changes on 106.3.

Or...I could be wrong. Others thoughts?

I do not think Mega sounds anything like Movin - Movin leaves a lot to be desired, of course (perhaps some fresher dancier music), but there certainly is a difference. The sad thing is that unless Mega "moves" towards a format change, you'll hear the same music you hear now, a year from now - I've been told by someone there (it's been about a year) that they know exactly what songs you'll hear a year from now. Guess what? They were right - how predictable.
