Journey 94.1

Interesting...

I had a suspicion it would be Hot AC... fills a gap with Q102 leaning pretty heavy as CHR. The imaging and jingles sound pretty good. Recording the flip... will have that up later this afternoon.

First song: Journey - Don't Stop Believin'

Prove to me that this is better than 94.1. I could grow to like this channel but for not it sounds like Rewind 94.9 without the 70s. Honestly thinking about trying to get Sirius...

What's sad....the stunting sounded better. To me, so far it sounds like WARM and MOJO mixed. :-\ Please tell me there will be jocks or will this be yet another jukebox radio station?

Is anyone else shocked by a station named Journey 94.1 playing Journey as its first song?

This station should have been Yanni 94.1. ::)

I remember me and microbob talking about how 94.1 is a cursed frequency. I said it then, and I'll say it now. It's been cursed since CC had ahold of it.

Mix did decent if I remember correctly, but still pretty low compared to Q102 which stomped them... this is when Q leaned more Hot AC and KISS didn't sound as god awful. Towards the end of Mix, I liked how it sounded though. I remember thinking it was going to flip MOViN as that was the hot format at the time.

Then, Radio did pretty bad. They couldn't get the format right and they began leaning it AAA and eventually became Frequency. I bet this was a local decision. Jan Jeffries got in there and saw that mistake and flipped it to something more corporate.

What I like about Journey so far: Good imaging and jingles. They didn't half-ass the launch.
What I dislike about Journey so far: It sounds pretty AC-leaning. The whole 90's, 80s, & NOW definitely had me thinking it'd be more 90's leaning, but I'm hearing quite a bit of 80's tunes.

It sounds a little like Rewind, but even more similar to an AC station like WARM who is getting whooped by Rewind. They're trying to corner Hubbard here. Steal that 25+ audience from both Rewind and Q and get them back over to Warm and Journey. I don't see that happening though.

The music definitely has some variety, but once again, they were better off going with "80's, 90's, and Now" as that would fit what they're doing so far.

As promised, here's the link to the audio... somebody beat me to it though! http://formatchange.com/audio/458.mp3

In the other thread, which I'm not going to bother to look up, someone mentioned that it will be a fresher AC and that's why 98 has been softer recently. Sounds like they were on to something. Look at what Entercom did in Kansas City. Blew up their Soft AC heritage station, KUDL, to launch a new younger AC.

Are Warm 98's day's numbered? Journey 94-1 is quite soft by Hot AC standards. Discuss.

Even KUDL is hotter than the new Journey.

Rubber makes a good point. Warm 98 sounds VERY sleepy-sounding and their days could be numbered... Rewind is beating them and will continue to beat them until XMAS. This new Journey is AC, not Hot AC.... it's Hot AC leaning AC... almost like a "Fresh" format.

Warm 98, maybe flip to CHR or Rhythmic CHR while leaving Journey to be the AC/Hot AC hybrid to go against Rewind? Either that or Warm's going to have to stay pretty soft.

It also could be that 96Rock's days could be numbered as a rock station. Most of the rock formats around the country are having a hard time keeping listeners as most are going to Ipods or the net for their fix.

It's a Cumulus owned station... more than likely a Jukebox or a V.T. station. Are Cumulus Part-timers still only making minimum wage in the larger markets?
