Journey 94-1

Stereolane, call it what you want, it is what it is. Ive been a music director, program director,VP/GM and a broadcast owner. Its about ratings and revenue. If you own 5 stations in one market not every station can be number one, so yes you create flanker stations whatever to protect and bolster your ratings and your cluster. That being said Im not the biggest fan of the way corporate radio always works,No because of it my business has hurt, but as a one time station owner I completely understand and have adapted to it. BTW studies show radio to be one of the healthiest mediums among young people and that it is still the go to place for new music, just letting you know.

Richstrunck and borderblaster are right. The radio landscape is far different now than it used to be. Although I understand steteolane's frustration, the fact remains that when the world changes(and I don't just mean the 'radio' world)one must adapt, overcome and reinvent in order to survive and prosper. Do I long for the days when a jock went in for his shift an hour or two early to pick out his records depending on his mood and what was happening socially (and/or politically) that day? Sure. But times have changed. You can get with it and find a niche in the current radio scenario in order to excel and succeed(and possibly be an instrument of change down the road), or you can cross your arms, stamp your feet and have a hissy fit. It's radio and it's a business. That's why they call it the radio business. I know that's not what many want to hear, but it's today's reality.
