Journey So Far?

Anybody enjoying it? Anybody ready for it to flip? I find myself listening every now and then in Dayton. I always thought the imaging and jingles were good... one good thing about Cumulus. It's still quite 80s-sounding for me, of course trying to steal those women from Q and Rewind. How long will it last?

Canned radio at its best. Rick Dees sounds edited and badly voice tracked. The music sounds like the old Mix format and makes me want to find the preset button for 94.9. What a shame they couldn't have switched to CHR.

<shrug> It doesn't thrill me. I don't hate it, either. There's nothing compelling about it. The age is now showing in Rick Dees' voice, I think. Still....nice to have some kind of identifiable personality on the station, although it would be better to have someone local.

Now that's just crazy talk. Heaven forbid they actually pay someone local to be a personality on a new radio station.

The station runs a tight playlist but did you see the PPM's this month, sister AC Warm 98 took a nose dive and Rewind did too. I still think there AC not hot AC. Over the past few weeks there sounding more "fresh" like. Early indications are there putting a hurt on the market. Much too the shagrin od the naysayers!

In a word, bland. If you like their particular little short list of songs you'll listen until your brain is fried then move on. It's really just soneone else's i-pod. Didn't Rick Dees just celebrate his 80th birthday or so? :D

When it comes to programming a station to females 18-49 which is Journeys target, familiar is what that demo wants! I guess if it's "Bland" what you call it then it's Bland.I've never seen a successful station in that target that didn't. Males 18-49, that's a bit of a difference however humans are creature's of habit and tend to like what is familiar to them!

rich...Where do you get the info that shows Warm and Rewind nosedived? May to June shows Rewind UP in share and cume. Warm is UP in cume and only down by 0.7. Hardly a nosedive.

Sorry Elephant your right Rewind is up. 2, Warm is down .6 to a 4.4 and Journey is up. 3 to a 2.3, Journey take's a huge jump in Cume 60,000 thousand, Rewind 33,000 and Warm only 13,000 listeners. To me this is indication that Journey has hurt Rewind(And Rewind is a great station!!) Even more sister Warm 98. Of course the next few months will tell us for sure!

The 'Journey' jingles sound like they were sung in somebody's basement with old mattresses as soundproofing. They should have a lot more punch, and are a half-assed effort.

I agree, Rewind is good, I like Jay and Steve Mann. Jingles, I.D's, and liners sound tight. but the library is a bit thin. The morning guy (Hi, my name's Ray!!!!") has no substance whatsoever, other than play the same tunes that played 18 hours before. Mornings on Rewind should be a big production, with real talent, perhaps someone from Cincinnati's radio past... As a former PD, I can see so many things that could be done with Rewind, but it's little more than retro wallpaper.

I think they all kind of sound the same, 94.1, 94.9, 100.3... As everyone's said they generally skew one way or another (Jammin goes more 70s, the other two more 90s) but they all touch the 80s. Kinda overdone.

I agree- I've been flipping through the stations the past couple of nights, and when I first heard Rick Dees, I had to do a double take. It is kind of sad to hear him voice tracked, as he was better back in the 80s when he did his "Rick Dee's Weekly Top 40".. or was he a fill in for Casey Kasem back then? I always thought that both of them had their own countdown shows...

Sad. You would think that for Evening Drive, that a local talent would be the best thing.

Why does Journey not have a local morning show? Jeff and Jen could use some competition. Afternoons should be topical and light news of the day in between the Soccer Mom tunes. Cumulus could do some damage with that strong signal on 94.1.

2ndsout,

Rick Dees did indeed have his own Weekly Top 40 show. I may even have some old vinyl in my parent's basement from when we got the show that way. <insert old guy reference here>

I agree. New stations take forever to put staff on these days. Look at Click in Dayton... been half a year now hasn't it? And Dees still does the weekly top 40.

I think Rick Dees still has "The Weekly Top 40". It aired on WGTZ/Z-93 from 1993-2007, its last time slot being Sat. mornings from 6-10 AM. Gen X Radio 106.7 in Columbus airs old Rick Dees and the Weekly Top 40 eps from 6-10A on Saturday mornings. Dees was OK, but Casey Kasem was my fave.
