JOX IS ON 94.5 THIS MORNING.....

Amy chance they will broadcast in Mono to boost the signal. Or is there something that I can put on a radio that can boost the signal so I can pick it up?

I listen to it, in Tuscaloosa, in my vehicle all day(on 100.5). Just can't pick up 94.5 anywhere in town. Not even on my home stereo.

Seems like 94.5 use to be a stronger signal years ago.

Is there anything I can do on my end to help me pick it up?

Get a new radio. 94.5 puts in a fine signal in Tuscaloosa.

When Rick and Bubba were on the station, 94.5 beat the Tuscaloosa Rick and Bubba affiliate in the Tuscaloosa ratings. Somebody in T-town can hear it.

I bet if they turn the stereo off, It'll be a stronger signal. when they first turned the stereo off on 100.5, I noticed it start picking up on occasion up here north of Huntsville. Where while it was the X, it NEVER picked up.

The good news about picking 94.5 up in Tuscaloosa is that you should still be able to get it with very little difficulty on good radios. You can also usually get antennas for your home stereo that will help you out. Without having listened to 94.5 in Tuscaloosa and tried things myself, it's hard for me to tell you what will work and what won't. I use a pretty old antenna, an LS-4 from Parsec, and I've had pretty good luck with it. However, my mileage has also varied considerably.

One way you might be able to isolate the problem down a little bit is to see if you can get any Birmingham stations. 94.5 should be the exact same signal as 93.7, 96.5, 99.5, 103.7 and 104.7. So, if you can get those stations, you should also be able to get 94.5. Of course, radio isn't necessarily an exact science, but there should be hope if you can get those stations.

Since the final move to 94.5 this morning, WJOX has been broadcasting in mono, so that should help a little bit with the signal. I wonder if 100.5 goes back to a music format, if the stereo will be turned back on over there.

For that matter, I thought 1150 was sold by Citadel to another broadcaster.

You're right. Citadel no longer owns WJRD. It was sold to JRD Inc close to a year ago.
I had thought about that idea, also..about maybe Citadel putting a rebroadcast of WJOX on AM 1150. I had forgotten, too, that it had been sold until you mentioned it. What about the possibility of a rebroadcast of JOX on Citadel's WBEI there? The 101.7 signal would be able to cover all of Tuscaloosa and areas west of there.

Where I live at, about 15 miles northwest of cullman on the morgan county line, 94.5's stereo signal has some dead spots up here, strange that they're on the same tower as WZZK because it comes in fine up here (I guess their antenna is higher up on the stick). I've noticed though since they have been in mono, their signal is better. back when my small station was on the air, 95.5 WBGR, I always had better luck in mono. With mono, the signal in general has better coverage. It was the same way when 100.5 was in stereo, their signal was very weak. Since theyve been mono for the past two years I can hear their signal half the time.

In T town , their signal should be half decent. If not, something's wrong. :-\

howdy neighbor....how close are you to the 99.9 transmitter up there near eva?
if you like radio that much have you considered talking with ron sr or ron jr at WKUL?
both nice guys...

i grew up on WXXR when it was on 95.5 (1994-to 1997 when i went to college in mobile). There I landed a job with 92Zew and Oldies 106.5 (now the Pirate) and worked there nearly a year from 99-2000 (when i graduated with a degree in computer science)

Most recently i put in nine months @ WQLT, 107.3 in Florence - pretty much until gas prices knocked me out. I also run a local broadband wireless network using 900 mhz technology - Cyber Broadband - here and across Cullman County. Shoot me an email sometime...just go to www.cyberbroadband.net or www.cullmanpc.com and hit one of the contact us pages...
