Joy Behar Leaving "The View"

The article doesn't explain why Behar is leaving. Is it her decision or is she being pushed out? And will they give her a face-saving explanation?

I guess all TV shows have pressure to keep those demos within 18-49.

Word is Joy revealed to the press that Frank Langella was the unnamed actor who gave Barbara chicken pox. Barbara didn't like this so she fired her.

If it was Frank Langella that gave Barbara Walters chicken pox, I wonder what Whoopi thinks about it? Whoopi and Langella dated for several years.

Perhaps it may be time for ABC to cancel "The View", give back the 11 A.M.-12 Noon ET hour back to local stations, and reclaim the 9-10 A.M. hour so that ABC can expand "Good Morning America" to three hours.

With "GMA" having recently ended "Today"'s decade-plus streak as the nation;'s most popular network morning news show, it may be time for ABC to consider a third four of "GMA".

And doing so would probably cost ABC much less than keeping "The View".

A side bar on the front page of today's New York Daily News says "Liz out. Is Barbara next?" An article on Page 3 of The Daily News wonders if any of these people can be replacement hosts on the view:

Sarah Palin

Lena Dunham

Ann Curry

Hillary Clinton

Palin would never be able to handle being the only conservative on the panel, and would like demand major $$$; Dunham is presumably busy enough with her regular job; Curry is probably perceived as damaged goods; and Clinton is likely getting recharged to run in 2016 and would have no interest in taking this job.

After Star and Rosie headaches, The View has been host-drama-free for the past several years. Interested who replaces Behar & Hasslebeck .

maybe nobody and its just Sherri Shepard and Whoopi with rotating guest hosts. cost saving move?

It's been boring since Rosie left. The problem is too many comics. Where are the Asian and Latino women, also.

It's too much of the same.

The thing I hated most about Elisabeth was she was stupid. If you notice, Elisabeth is right a lot of times, and yet she can't defend her position and winds up looking stupid, even though she's right.

They need a conservative who has the brains to back up her points.

Not going to happen!

More likely that General Hospital would move to 11am, with Good Afternoon America airing at 2pm.

Let's not predict the end of The View. It's relatively cheap to produce and makes a lot of money for ABC. Notice they're only announcing two cast members leaving, not a wholesale change. Panal members come and go over the years. And with only CBS programming against it (Price Is Right) ABC isn't going to abandoned the time slot or move something else to 11am and abandon that show's previous time slot.

And as far as I know, CBS's "The Talk" gets nowhere near the ratings of "The View." CBS keeps The Talk hoping it may pick up viewers, because it is also cheap to produce and because the boss' wife is one of the hosts.

I'd guess ABC would like to expand Good Morning America for another hour but most ABC stations seem to be happy running Live with Kelly & Michael at 9am, and Rachel Ray at 10am.

I agree. Though I think there is a chance there could be even more changes. Whoopi lately seems really public/focused on expanding the Sister Act musical to every country on the face of earth. And Sherri is promoting her standup every week and has a marginally successful acting career. Barbara isn't going anywhere. She's also the co-EP in charge.

Monday's show could be interesting. I think there is a chance that Babs will make "a major announcement". The show began as different women (one 20s, one 30s, one 40s, one 50s, and Babs) with different views. I can imagine an attempt to relaunch that concept. I can see Brooke Shields (a recent outstanding guest co-chost) and Lara Spencer (a GMA tie-in) as potential cast.

'Live with Kelly & Michael' is doing well, that ABC/GMA won't expand over it.

As for 'The View', it is still unclear if Behar chose to leave (personal reasons maybe) or it was ABC letting her go, which I doubt, unless it was because of money. Maybe she feels she is underpaid, or ABC is not renewing her because ABC feels it can hire lower paid personalities.

Given she was an original, the show's success is partly due to her. Hasselback leaving is still unconfirmed.
