Augusta Joy to Augusta

I’ve been wondering why 88.3 WAFJ was locally programmed for the Csra but I figured rtn brought in enough support to program it separate for Augusta. I believe it was part of his radio initially but now they announced they are joining the joy fm on Tuesday with no local jocks carrying the joy fm feed from the Tampa Bay Area. It was announced yesterday day that wafjs morning co host was joining his radio for pm drive. Now I expect sister station 101.9 88.7 the Song will become a joy worship as well.

I wonder why RTN bothers to keep the HIS Radio branding. One name works for K-LOVE and others. Now GA and TN make no sense, Chattanooga and Augusta are JoyFM but Athens and Savannah will still be HIS Radio.

I could see RTN flipping Savannah to The Joy FM to match the rest of the state except NE GA where 90.9 WRAF is an extension of the main WLFJ Greenville signal to west. With a car radio you can get both Joy and His in Athens though WMSL is licensed to Athens. I assume that the His Radio brand is too strong for RTN to ditch in the carolinas.

I’ve always wondered, well in recent years, how RTN justified running WAFJ separately in a smaller market. I wonder if 102.3 becoming K-LOVE back in 2019 has hit the local budget over the past 5 years.

As an historic note, before 88.3 signed on, the frequency was occupied by "WFGG-FM" , Fort Gordon (now Fort Eisenhower). It was the closest thing to AFN in CONUS. If I recall WFGG signed on to another NCE frequency afterwards. Now only a memory.

I know analog WJBF TV6 also impacted the ability for 88.3 to be used. I just dont know why RTN wont just go 100% music. Preaching on radio is too easily available on demand streaming.

His Radio's markets overlap with a Southern Gospel network known as Joy FM in NC. That station's website even has a disclaimer saying they are not affiliated with some other stations known as Joy FM, so there are probably trademarks involved.

I doubt RTN would flip the main Carolina signal in Greenville to The Joy FM under any circumstance Its 40+ years of heritage and popularity in the upstate for years. I went to the WAFJ site after midnight and it was streaming Joy I heard a reference to serving Jenkins GA around 12:40 then the new legal ID at 1am . I could not find a feed for The Song but on my garbage dump run I was getting a very fringe signal for 88.7 from the south and heard it say that I was listening to Joy Worship. (88.7 Spindale from the north was trying to take over).
I just discovered that RTN got the 88.3 signal in what wikipedia calls a trade with Toccoa Falls college giving up their recently purchased Fort Myers signal.
