JR (Larry Hagman) Signed for Dallas Update

Larry Hagman returning to 'Dallas' for its update

NEW YORK (AP) -- TNT says Larry Hagman is returning to Southfork Ranch for the pilot of an updated "Dallas."

Also signed for the series pilot are two fellow "Dallas" veterans, Linda Gray and Patrick Duffy, TNT announced Tuesday. ...

Bing's daughter shot him.
He shot himself.
Wonder who will shoot him this time.

On a similar note whatever became of that Dallas made-for-theatres flick that was planned to be released in the early 80's starring most of the cast including Hagman? As I can recall the movie would be complete with full nudity, violence, graphic sex and lots of "F" words. It had even gotten as far as even Entertainment Tonight had reported this.

Alas...in the end the closest that ended up being similar to the "uncensored" Dallas was the mid 80's porno "Hot Dallas Nights" with JR being known as "RJ"..GEE how did they come up with that one? ;D

I hope its not one of those boring reunion get togethers where the stars sit in a circle to talk about old times and play clips of the show.

From what I've read, it's supposed to be more like Dallas: The Next Generation. JR's signed for the pilot. The show is supposed to be about JR's and Bobby's kids - unless JR steals the show again (the original was supposed to be a Romeo and Juliet thing about Bobby and Pam).

;D
There was also talk just a few years ago of making an updated movie version of "Dallas" with John Travolta playing J.R. Ewing. Other than Travolta playing J.R., I haven't heard anything else about that version.

Their are some classic goofs here with this series. Didn't JR have only one CHILD (John Ross) during the run of the series that was proven to be his? And I can't recall Bobby Ewing ever having any children during the original run of Dallas. Plus, didn't JR supposedly commit suicide at the end of the last Dallas episode? And if Bobby and JR both produced children after the original Dallas went off the air, wouldn't they still be in High School?

It was established in the follow up TV movie that JR did not shoot himself, let alone succeed in killing himself. Christopher is an adopted son.

I hardly ever watched "Dallas" after about 1982 or so. All I remember was that it was implied that JR shot himself at the very end of the Final "Dallas" episode. I don't remember a "Dallas" follow up TV movie.

Since it wasn't originally planned as a series finale, just a cliffhanger, it was left open to guessing, but, really, had they gotten another season, it's not as if JR of all characters would have been dead (considering what they did to "undo" Bobby's death). He shot the mirror, not himself...and he would up spending some time getting mental health treatment (which could dovetail with the alleged plan for JR to be used in this pilot).

You sure didn't pay attention to the end of the movie. You should go back and watch it again. It really has a great ending with JR and John Ross. Set the stage for many more movies if someone wants to run with the story line. Kind of showed that JR really somewhere deep down cares about the family! And yes I know he sure had a funny way of showing it. lol

That was true about J.R.; he may have been dastardly towards everyone he crossed, including members of his own family, but when push came to shove, he and the rest of the Ewing clan always stood side-by-side. He was especially fearful of Jock (fearful in terms of any child being cautious of disappointing their parents), and he definitely revered Jock. There was a scene in the season ten finale (the one where Pam gets into a severe car crash), where J.R. meets with nemesis Jeremy Wendell, after Wendell gained control of Ewing Oil. Wendell sees the portrait of Jock hanging in the office, and just as he's about takes down Jock's picture, J.R. threatens to kill him "where (he stood)". J.R. takes the picture, and shows John Ross the picture of Jock, he proclaims symbolically "THIS is Ewing Oil!"
