JRL Out

Looks as if Friday will be Landecker's last day at 94.7. According to Feder's column, things look rather bleak for the HoF jock's relationship with True Oldies.

Replacement? How about Greg Brown? or Fred Winston? I wonder who is it going to be? I hope this wont hurt the station with ratings.

Robert Feder hinted that it would be more Scott Shannon, as his company is putting pressure on True Oldies to add more of his programming. So, it sounds like the station is turning backward, instead of moving forward! And, Kevin Matthews speaks so highly of Citadel, and that this company really knows how to do radio! Sorry, but replacing what could be a great station with noted local talent, to running the station off a bird, for me doesn't seemto match his statement.

I just checked, and he is off the website. I'll bet he won't be on today. This is indeed a huge disapointment for those who want their oldies with the Chicago personalities to back them up. I'm sure Dick will run once his contract is up.

I thought Biondi had a multi-year contract? I dont think he will leave now that he his getting his old time back 8-12.

My hunch is this is a budget thing. I don't mean to slight Greg Brown at all, but Landecker would command a bigger salary. Plus, Brown will be 4 to 8 as opposed to 3 - 7, which is one hour LESS of afternoon drive and probably had an impact on Brown's salary from the beginning. My guess is that a portion of those "savings" will go to Dick Biondi to cover the extra hour he gets.

And I said it last week when the Landecker reports first surfaced, that I won't be surprised if Landecker winds up on WLUP for afternoons, if he wants to continue on the air here full time. WLUP would allow Landeceker to do more of the talk segments he didn't have the time for on 94.7, while in a venue for some of the music he played in the 70's on WLS can still be played on WLUP (i.e. Stones, Kiss, Zeppelin, etc.)

Meanwhile, I don't agree that Scott Shannon is begging to be heard in Chicago as much as in the wallet. Now, in the event that Greg Brown can keep 94.7 in the top 10 for afternoon drive, it would officially read as "Scott Shannon-Greg Brown" for that time slot. Shannon is still looking to add more stations across the country to his True Oldies. It would be worth thousands and thousands more for Shannon if/when he can solicit other markets with "his" top 10 numbers in a market the size of Chicago.

So Shannon "wins" and 94.7 "wins" financially. But 94.7's audience loses without Landecker, to whatever extent.

Greg Brown has always been one of my favorite DJ's. Him and Fred Winston are awesome. I liked listening to Greg's Brown Bag Lunch on WJMK.

Landecker is cool too, but I like Brown better.

Also, Landecker is on WZZN Sunday nights from 7pm-Midnight according to their website. He hosts "Into The 70s." I've been listening to WZZN, and Landecker is on as of this post.

Just to let you all know FYI John Landecker is going to be a full time minister over at
Brynford Bible Church located at 5700 N Pulaski Rd. you can see him and hear him speak
at the 11:00 service. he goes by a different name of Pastor Charles Salvaggio.

So if you guys ever want to see Landecker again, that's where he is.....
