Judi Franco Out at WKXW

Wow thats a shock.....I am not in WKXW's listening area but when I was I would tune into the Dennis & Judi show.....I wonder if Dennis is going to run solo or if she will be replaced.
 
When did this happen? Did she say anything about it on air? This is a shocker! Dennis Malloy and Judi Franco were pefect together.There was never a dull moment. Over the course of their years together they touched on just about every subject you could think of. I wonder what will happen now? In my opinion Judi is an irreplacable part of that duo. I wish Judi all the best. She will be missed by so many of her loyal fans and listeners. Dennis should just stay solo.
 
Let's face reality the Dennis and Judi show was stale and they sounded bored lately. The suggestion that Dennis stay alone would be a bad move since Dennis sounds even worse alone. How many times can you listen to Dennis say to Judi you look great today and I like your backside ? Dennis sounded like a middle aged pervert when he would say that.

Dennis seems to have a backside fixation saying he was late to work the other day because Beyonce was on TV. Late for work because he wants to see Beyonce's butt on TV ? Sounds like he's burn't out or is not hip enough to know he can watch Beyonce a million times over whenever he wants to on you tube.

That late statement is a clear indicator that he's bored and just cashing a paycheck. When he's alone he calls people into the studio who clearly shouldn't be on the radio just to waste time. He had a guy on the other day that you could hardly understand. Change is good and this change was a long time coming. I wish Judi good luck and if she's talented she'll get something quickly, if not she'll realize she was nothing special and the parade has just passed her by. Time will tell.

You know I'm always suspect to the agendas people have when they chime in out of NOWHERE with their very FIRST post on these board. Granted its a public message board but still it does bare noticing. Anyway the Dennis and Judi Show was not atypical of any other talk radio in terms of fan base...content wise I would say yes as it was clearly "lighter fare" than the rest of the broadcast day on 1015. In my opinion thats what gave their show a "breath of fresh air" vibe as it wasn't the same "run into the ground politics" that is heard on every other daypart. If their job was to cater (as someone mentioned elsewhere) to "the soccer mom crowd" then I would say that on a daily basis their successfully completed their mission. It is worth noting that a TON of men were daily listeners to the show as well from my observations.

Dennis worked alone Pre-Judi from 10-noon if memory serves me correctly so thats always an option I suppose (working solo) namely if they are looking to cut costs as many radio entities are now-a-days otherwise I'm sure someone in the wings will surface as a co-host replacement...let's just hope if that's the case they post the vacancy as I wouldn't want Phil Roberts to be upset ::)

Judi was a talent in a league of her own and surely will land on her feet again. She (that I know of) worked at the shore and then went to Market #1 for a time so surely she has qualifications on her resume. If I had to start dissecting other talent on a local-level that is undeserving of the airtime that they currently have, let's just say this post would start to get a bit messy REAL FAST.

Judi I'm just ONE person but on behalf of the rest of your fans that may or not be aware of such a forum like this, BEST OF LUCK TO YOU and you WILL be missed by us and Dennis I'm sure...

PS- If the only observation you (LarryKerly) were able to take away from the show was a "backside fixation" then clearly you didn't "get" the show!
 
Most people I spoke with today seemed very pleased Judi's gone. I heard comments like "she was hardly there anyway " to " she was obnoxious". As for Dennis I would be surprised if they keep him since he sounds burn't out.

They need a fresh new sound to mid days on 101.5. Change is good.
 
Maybe and hopefully the short term plan at 101.5 once the mid day audience gets used to Michelle Pilenza will be to eventually dump Dennis and just call the show Middays with Michelle. When Michelle filled in alone a while back she was very good and didn't need anyone else in the studio. Dennis can't do a show alone as evident when he calls people in to the studio you can't even understand. If I was Dennis I would start looking for a new career now. The writing is on the wall and he just may not realize it yet. Michelle will be the star of that mid day show very soon and Dennis wil become more and more insignificant as time moves on. Change is good.

For someone who is clearly NOT a fan of the show (in its former form) you sure know a hell of a lot about it. You know, I find it truly amazing that the people who are the BIGGEST HATERS to anything (namely radio shows) are the ones who know the MOST about it and are probably the P-1's. Your statements are rather empty and one-sided but feel free to post-away as I find it somewhat entertaining.

As for "the people you talked too" are you suggesting that you work for Quinnipiac or are you just taking your personal opinions and pluralizing them?? I'd have to say the latter. Ohhhhhhhhhh maybe you're Michelle's husband in which case your posts would make perfect sense!!

I can not stand Judi Franco, but you gotta give her and Dennis credit. How often does a team like that last for over 10 years?? Granted, its probably because neither one of them are talented enough to be wooed away by another station, but you still have to acknowledge the rarity of it.

This may be the best thing that could happen to Dennis. I've noticed that over the past few years he has become more and more angry, crotchety, and bitter. And I'm not alone in that assessment. Maybe having a vibrant, young, motivated woman for a co-host can snap him out of his disturbingly negative attitude. Judi was his "enabler" as she gradually became a more mean-spirited pessimist over the years as well. Maybe having Michelle around will re-energize him.

Also, it will be interesting to hear Michelle's take on general topics instead of the same old re-hashed relationship stuff.
 
I find it amazing that radio 411 feels the need to attack a poster just for offering an opinion. I have listened to 101.5 for a least 6 years now and I've concluded that Dennis and Judi are burn't out. The best thing to happen to 101.5 is Judi leaving but they need to dump Dennis now. Putting Michelle Pilenza on in that mid day slot alone without Dennis will be a breath of fresh air so sorely needed. She's the new star of mid days and without Dennis would be more successful. Dennis will be holding her back then riding her coat tails. Start Michelle Pilenza off with a clean new mid day slate without Dennis which will offer a fresh new start for a fresh new show. Out with the burn outs and in with Middays with Michelle !

Why would they have stayed 10 years if they were so awful? Their diner tours and cruises were very popular.

So how does 1015 handle the parade of people calling in once thye hear Judi is not there anymore? Surely people are going to want to talk about that!
 
How bad could they have been to have lasted as long as they did? While it may be true that they were never wooed away by another station, they still had to be good to stay there and do that well for that long. That station is a powerhouse, so I doubt they'd keep them there if they were not delivering numbers. As for Dennis Malloy, to me he is a funny, talented guy. Honestly, I think whenever Jim Gearhart retires, Malloy should do mornings.
 
Dennis funny ?? Now that's funny. The funny talent get hired and work in NY or Philly.

Craig Carton is funny and is making people laugh on 66 WFAN mornings with Boomer. Talented funny people don't sit in Trenton year after year they get job offers in bigger markets to make bigger money.

People also will go to a diner on Fridays for lunch with or without Dennis and Judi being there and who wouldn't go on a free dinner cruise so that's nothing special. They stayed ten years until management may have realized the show is stale and they sounded burn't out and a change was needed.

Look everyone you'll see the new mid day star on 101.5 Michele Pilenza will have the audiences saying Judi who in a few weeks. Michele will boast ratings much higher and Dennis will realize he's a has been.

Even if they don't dump Dennis now which they should they still should still re name the show Middays with Michelle Pilenza and dennis. The guy who fills in when Jim Gearhart goes on vacation sounds good and he should replace Jim when Jim retires.

Seems to me Dennis was quite content to stay in Trenton. How do you know no one has tried to woo him to a bigger market to make bigger money? Newsflash: Not everyone WANTS to be on WFAN in New York or move out to Detroit. Also, like JaMa said, if they weren't making numbers, they wouldn't be there for 10 years (Dennis even longer, really).

I'm curious as to the answer to tater's question, too. I can remember being a wee lad, listening to Deminski & Doyle and Scott & Casey doing week-long sendoff shows before leaving the station, whereas Carton and Judi both were here today gone tomorrow.

Also, who moves up for middays on SoJO now? Judi was quickly erased from the 101.5 website, but SoJO's site still lists Michele for 10-3.
 
I think I have a unique perspective about someone leaving NJ 101.5...
First of all, Dennis & Judy together were of ONE MIND. They GOT each other...and that's rare in this biz. Whether a listener likes them or not, that FACT can not be denied. Doing a TEAM show ain't as easy as you might think. I've had 2 female partners in my career, and was part of an ensemble as well. Some things happen that you can't explain when it comes to CHEMISTRY. Dennis & Judy, love them or hate them had that. I've had it with MY co-hosts. Some teams are HORRIBLE because one is too dominant...chooses to be or is pushed into that role. Sometimes there is NO chemistry because of different backgrounds, ego issues, male/female issues...but one thing is certain... A team MUST be friends no matter what...or it can't sustain. I know...Abbott & Costello hated each other...but not the whole time they were together...that happened because of ego and illness. All that mattered is what came across on the RADIO and screen. They were the consumate pros at what they did DESPITE having disagreements.
I haven't spoken to Dennis in some time...but I KNOW he'll adapt IF his new partner GETS him. She will have to GET EVERY NUANCE to what makes him tick. To be a successful team HE will have to find that necessary "thing" whatever that shall be with his new team member. It's the way it IS. The teams who REMAIN locked into each other's sights will sustain. As for Judy, I'm not privvy to what happened...maybe she just got tired or was a victim of some budget issue. I wish HER well. If she chooses to remain in the biz...she'll be quite ok thank you. Both are very talented quick-thinking people who complimented each other well. Period.
The folks who DON'T like them or one of them...just don't understand how difficult it IS for 10 years to be on your 'game' each and every day.

Everyone has an OPINION about hosts on the radio...and everyone has two buttons. Volume and On/Off. Simple. I laugh at this board's posters and another one where MOST decide to HIDE behind their mommy's apron and make snide remarks. How adult. How lame. How slimy. Come out come out whereever you are.
I suggest that THEY try for just ONE HOUR to do what SOME of us have done for a lifetime! Then post with your remarks. Betcha there'd be a different tone.
