JUDY JORDAN (KLTV, KDFW) ILL

M

MikeShannon914

Guest
Announced to the contingent at last Sat's KVIL reunion that Judy has cancer and is undergoing chemo today (Monday.) No idea what type or what her prognosis is. Thoughts and prayers to Judy and her family.

Judy made it through chemo ok, according to her daughter. She's scheduled for NINE more treatments, so it must be pretty serious. Not sure if she's able to keep working at KLTV in the meantime or not.

Oh, that's right...she was at KLTV on and off for many years. I forgot all about CBS 19 (too many years of there being just ONE station in Tyler, I guess.)

Since I mentioned KDFW, am I the only one that still mindlessly flips to Channel 4 for CBS programming about 50% of the time? I caught myself doing it again last night. I've even set the VCR to record a CBS show and programmed it for Ch 4. (Yes, I still use my VCR.) Yeah, I know, it's been 13 years now, but old habits are hard to break.

It's called "sometimers," Mike. Wait a few years 'til it really kicks in.

Any update on Judy? It's been over a month since the last post and it's been awful quiet around here about her.

Curious minds want to know.......

I don't apologize for the sexism here. Judy was
on Channel 4 when I lived in Dallas in the late '70s,
and although I was partial to Iola Johnson and the
rest of the News 8 team, I liked to look at Judy.

Now, seriously, I hate to hear she's apparently in
bad shape. If she has brain cancer, I don't give
her much hope (I had a cousin who died from it,
and she took chemo for years). Nonetheless, I'm pulling for you,
Judy; you were one of the reasons I liked Dallas so well.

And to the poster who says he still looks for CBS on
Channel 4, I have the same problem when I go to Atlanta:
I still look for ABC on Channel 11 there, even though ABC
moved to Channel 2 in 1980. Old habits? Maybe. Wishful
thinking? In my case, definitely.

I randomly found this while browsing the net...

Judy is doing great. She is responding well to treatment. She's over halfway through her chemo.

I will definitely tell Judy you thought she was a looker. She'll get a kick out of it. And thank you for the encouragement.
It's not brain cancer, luckily. Well, if there is a lucky in the cancer world.
Colon cancer.

Speaking of that, my Mom-In Law is in remission with colon cancer, the only drawback is shes tied to a colostomy bag for the rest of her life.

Colon cancer.

I'm tickled that you'd do that. I'm also relieved to hear it's not
a brain tumor, and I hope the doctors can catch it so she doesn't
need a colostomy bag (I've heard they're a real nuisance and hope
I never need one). Keep us all posted on Judy's progress.

Well, she was tickled to hear it!
She just finished treatment number 10 of 12 and is going strong!

I hate to hear she's tied to a colostomy bag;
that, I know, is going to be a MAJOR inconvenience.

But she's still hanging in there and I'm still pulling
for her. I guess that's worth something.

Slambang, I remember when I attended Kilgore College back in 1986 or 87 (I was a communications major at the time) about three of my classmates and I were behind the scenes putting together our weekly newcast Judy was paying us a visit and later took the time to speak to us about broadcast journalism and many others associated with it. She was a joy to come by the campus. You might say that it was an honor for us to meet her in person.

Speaking of which, how is progress going for her? The last time I saw her on TV was about two years ago when I was visiting East Texas, she was anchoring the weekend news for CBS19. I hope she pulls through. I'll be praying for her recovery.

Yesterday was her last chemo treatment and she's ECSTATIC! She is doing great and has responded very well to treatment. My family thanks you for your prayers.

Please pass on my well wishes if you get the chance. I worked with Judy at KLTV back in the 80s, when she would bring her daughter into the station on occasion. We exchanged a few emails last year and she was still as upbeat as ever.

I certainly will pass on the wishes. And, I apologize for any chaos I created at the station. They really shouldn't let an 11 year old attempt to run the teleprompter!

I still do that all the time for "The Price is Right"
