July 15th...Today Last Day for AP All News Network

AP is pulling the plug on its All News Network at the end of today. One can imagine how the staff feels about this decision. All the best to those people who have put their heart, sweat and soul into this network.

I liked it. AP ANN was a great way for smaller stations to get in to the all news game. However, not many affiliates took the service. Be that as it may, I hope someone steps in to fill the void-- and not CNN Headline News. TV on the radio doesn't work.

Mark, it hurts too ...it must be like any other ending to good work...these guys have been delivering quality news for years....i wish AAR or Jones or any other resource (conservative liberal whatever) could have gotten the AP to continue this. In my career, ive been in 4 situations where we were shutting down the leavings of so many peoples good work...over many years....its a pain I dont wish on anyone......its like the close of a manufacturing factory...that has contributed to the lives of so many in a small town...but to a much smaller degree...

I have so many fond memories of trips through various parts of the US and running into those sounders then hearing the latest updates. (i know i harp on the sounders ..but I love them a lot). Ill be taping tonight....and I wish the absolute best to all those who are either going to new assignents or are looking at new futures...

Since the AP will continue to feed AP Network News reports at the top and bottom of each hour and a few features, I wonder how many people, if any, will lose their jobs.

I seem to recall that when NBC Radio cancelled "Monitor" in early 1975 that no one was laid-off. On the other hand, NBC started their ill-fated NIS (News and Information Service) network a few months later, so I suspect most of the behind-the-scenes staff of "Monitor" moved over to NIS along with some new hires.
